WB and Narrow O2 sensors showing huge difference

Hey, Im having a problem with my O2 sensors. My New WB is showing AFR of 9.0 and my narrow band is showing 13.5 at idle. Dont know what one to trust.. My narrow is a heated unit at the collector of my passenger header and the WB is located 1 foot in front of the Cat. Any thoughts would be appreciated! I dont seem to have any exhaust leaks.

Re: WB and Narrow O2 sensors showing huge difference

How are you determining the AFR off the NB?

Is the WB moving around at all? Or just stuck at 9.0:1? Frankly I don't think the engine would even run at that AFR. In which case, something on the WB isn't hooked up correctly or it's malfunctioning in some way. I've hit 10.5:1 inadvertently at times during tuning of open loop and the engine is stumbling and nearly dying. I can't imagine the thing running at all at 9:1.

Re: WB and Narrow O2 sensors showing huge difference

I'm using Dynamic EBL What's Up Display to see my AFR for both sensors. They both move around when I hit the throttle. I was doing a VE learn and I also noticed that all my new VE (fueling) values were -12 in the table. They should be more random. I'm starting to think the WB sensor is bad.. Because as you say the car would not even run at that level of richness.

I know in tunerpro you have to set up the WB sensor parameters so that it knows what sensor you're running. Different sensors may have different curves for voltage vs AFR. Maybe you have to do the same thing with the WUD?

Yeah, I did set it up in WUD. Last night I double checked everything. At first I thought I wired up the secondary wire that simulates Narrow band But it is wired and programed correctly. 0v is 7.4-5v is 22 afr

Re: WB and Narrow O2 sensors showing huge difference

Your wideband should have a small controller as part of the wiring. You need to check the setup of the wideband sensor there. I use an Innovate LC2 setup, and you can change the output curves to match the AFR for whatever fuel you are using. That controller uses RS232 to interface with a laptop, so I use the same RS232 to USB adapter that the EBL comes with. There is a lot of confusion here since a WB02 reads lambda, and that is converted to whatever AFR you set as stoich in the controller software. Make sure the filter percentage is set to off or low, and use the filtering in the WUD to smooth the signal out a bit. I changed the window of my wideband to something like 11:1 - 0V and 18:1 - 5V. I don't need to read richer or leaner than that.

Your controller should also have a free air calibration for the WB02 sensor. It is good practice to calibrate them in free air often. I am also assuming you have the wideband installed in the correct orientation that prevents water and other solids from accumulating on the sensor.

TLDR: Make sure the voltage to AFR calibration is the same between the controller and EBL. Calibrate the sensor in free air. Make sure grounds are good for the WB controller. Make sure the exhaust system is well grounded.

I am using the LC2 setup as well. I need to install the innovate software and see what everything is set at. I did do the calibration where you unplug the sensor, turn it on, plug it back in etc..

Re: WB and Narrow O2 sensors showing huge difference

So, I just realized something... I wired my setup to 12v on w ignition. However I realized it also turns on when I use the "radio only" ignition where you turn the key back instead of forward. I had the O2 on for probably 15 min without the engine running. Do you think this would cause it to go bad. I have read it shouldn't run long without the exhaust gases to keep it at temp. I did get the Innovate software working but havent had a chance to drive it yet.

EDIT....
Im going to move this to the prom page I think. I started the car and let it idle using the Innovate software and WUD open. WUD showed 10 AFR vs innovate software showed 13.8-14.5 ish... So sensor is working just need to figure out why WUD is not seeing it correctly.
