Capping aftermarket header smog tubes

Has anyone capped off the smog tubes on a set of headers for 82-92 f bodies? Car has a set of Edelbrock headers with the smog tubes and I wanted to clean up the engine bay by removing the smog pump and hoses. Car is not a daily driver since it has antique tags so not worried about inspection and emissions. Just don't have the funds for swapping out the headers at the moment.

If the fittings are the same size as those on the stock exhaust manifolds (which I assume they are), the plugs are 1/2"-20.
They ARE NOT pipe thread. The original fittings are a 5/16" inverted flare which have a 1/2"-20 thread...

I had a set of those headers. I used pipe caps to seal them and then eventually took off the headers and had the AIR tubes removed and the holes welded. Then I had the headers ceramic coated. The pipe caps worked fine but didn't look the best. Welding the holes closed worked great, then the ceramic coat made them look awesome.

I'll cap them for now and going to try and clean up the charcoal can lines and delete the egr. Too many hoses everywhere.

I just had a local shop cut the tubes off of some SLP headers and weld them up. I then had them Ceramic coated. Looks awesome.

Re: Capping aftermarket header smog tubes

I used pipe caps on my Edelbrock headers 20 years ago and they are still installed and work fine. In hindsight, it's not the cleanest solution, but it's cheap and works.
