hooker 2460HKR

Hi all,

Just replaced a stock 350sbc with another 350 (+HP, alum heads, etc.). I ran into an issue with the y-pipe. I'm using the same headers, Hooker 2460HKR, with the same y-pipe, and suddenly the y-pipe won't fit. It seems the y-pipe is hitting the oil pan and ii won't 'attached' to the passenger side header for about less than 1/2 inch. Any advice? Would the flowtech y-pipe 11102YFLT solve the problem? This y-pipe comes in 2 pieces, it might be easier to adjust/manage/attach/install/etc.

Re: hooker 2460HKR

Problem is more likely the oil pan.

Leave the exhaust alone and fix that.

Yup, totally agree. Get the right oil pan on. You could make a custom y pipe. Seems like the oil pan is the move but if you can fab well make/modify the y pipe. Is the pan close to anything else? The frame? There's a brake line on the top of the x member under the pan. How close are you to that?

do your aluminum heads have raised ports... often these are about 1/2" difference

As alan91Z28 said, some alum heads come with raised exhaust ports. AFR heads have .100" raised exhaust ports. There are other alum heads, like Blueprint, with 1/2" raised exhaust ports. Of course, check the oil pan first as other members suggested.

Re: hooker 2460HKR

I have raised port heads and have no y pipe clearance issues. I also have dons headers so that's not a direct comparison. I had Edelbrock TES header prior and still had no issues. If the headers have a ball/socket collector vs a flat/3 bolt flange maybe adding/modifying the slip fit part or the y pipe may gain some room. Sure would beat lifting the engine to swap the pan.

I was looking at these same headers for my 87 firebird 383 with aluminum heads. How do they fit? I have a 5 speed and the no name headers I have hit the slave cylinder. I'm juust looking for something that fits properly. Thank you in advance

They fit well, no issues with stock 350sbc. But with new crate and alum heads the y pipe hits the oil pan.
