Just installed my hooker catback

Awsome system would sound better if I had a 350 and new headers instead of a 305tbi and stock headers. Just some problems i have right now. I smell exhaust when im driving with the windows down anyone else who put theres on have trouble bolting to the cat, I think thats were its coming from. How far off the ground is the headpipe supposed to hang it seems to be kinda far down? Also anyone else have their tail pipe on the passenger side rubbing against the rubber peice hanging down under the spare tire.

thanks

It sounds like you're hanging crooked. When mine went on, we couldn't make the hanger on the passenger side of the muffler work right, so we pitched it an made a different one.
If the muffler isn't hanging right, then it puts a lot of twisting stress on the cat flange, pulling it out of alignment.

I assume you just bolted it together, and haven't welded the seams yet. If so, it should be easy to wiggle things in to proper adjustment.

yeah i figured it might be that cause it was crooked to the point that i had to use a longer bolt on one of the sides to make it fit to the cat. I'm gonna have fun making it fit cause the bolts aren't long enough.

Just to point something out you don't have stock headers, they're manifolds. The exhaust did a good job on the install of mine. Glad to hear you like the sound.

Well same thing basically. Anyways I just starightend the headpipe and cat connection but I can still smell exhaust with the windows down. I think i might have cracked the y-pipe putting the cat-back on cause i can hear it ticking at idle. Whats the price range for a good y-pipe header combo for a 305?

Edelbrock will run you around $300. I'm not sure on Hooker or Hedman. SLP will run around $500-$700 I believe.

The ticking also could be where the y-pipe connects to the cat. Make sure its tight, I had the same problem now... only cause I have a 3" y-pipe goin into a 2.25" cat.

Ill take a pic of the setup now b4 I put my hooker cat back on this week... I think im gonna win the jerry riggin award for this one!!! :lala:

Okay, two questions:

1: How? I'd like to see that setup

2: Why? Why, Why, oh Why?

good price for the header and y-pipe combo is 114.00 for heddman headers and 99.00 for the y-pipe i just got mine about two days ago from jegs and haven't put them on yet (too busy installing the megashifter and tach) but i will let you know how easy or hard it is.

Well, I had the headders from my GTA, which I tooke the engine out of to build another one, and Im goin with SLP's for it. So I figured I would use the Edelbrocks for the Vert. I went to a bunch of places, and noone would weld a used cat on... Its illegal here. Anyway, I had to do something, and beings that I dont have a welder, I ended up crimping the Y-pipe, wend to Pep Boys and got some of that muffler tape, a few clamps, and went to town. It did the job temporarily, but it has to be the sloppiest flowin exhaust ever... Ill take a few pics when I take it off so yall can laugh!
