muffler opinions
I need some opinions on what mufflers to get. I'm not wanting to get flowmasters cause everyone does that. What do yall think about the borla XR-1 Sportsman Race mufflers. I'm wanting the most hp, torque possible with good sound. Thanks

Ive had my hooker cat back for six months now and have loved every second of it, it seems to get louder every day. I would recommend it to anyone. if u just want the muffler, it is Hooker Aerochambered.
xr-1s are overpriced. if you want to be different get a Magnalfow catback or adapt a 4thgen SLP loudmouth on. The Magnaflow has the straight through borla syle but with beatuiful megaphone tips. 2 of my friends have their catback.
any 3 inch traditional style muffler will flow about the same, not enough difference to help really when you are talking about a cat back, so just shop the usual flowmaster, dynomax, hooker, edelbrock,.....blah blah, you get the idea. look for a tone and price you like. if you are plaanign to go the straight through muffler root, they are all basically teh same. they are just glasspacks with a different shell on them, just look for hte inlet and outlet diameter that match you app. my suggestion, go to the local autparts store and ask for a glasspack with a 3inch in/out, for under $20($30 at most) usually your search is done.

What is so wrong with a good set of Flowmaster? I know alot of people run them...but there is a reason...they sound great. I run Edelbrock TES headers through a open cat back to a 2 2/2 in 80 series Flowmaster. People tell me my exhuast sounds great all the time. I am swaping the cam to an LT1 which I hope will give it an even meaner sound. If you want a different sound Edelbrock makes catbacks and I don't know of any one that has one on their car. My uncle has one on his truck and it sounds good.

i've got whats called a "pro stock" muffler... It was recommended by my local muffler shop.... they take a while to break in but if you got a few months they've got a mean tone..... basically the same as flowmaster... but different

$30 unit from Summit racing with a 3" bent tailpipe that cost $20 from muffler shop and $10 for a universal hanger and 2 3" clamps. Total muffler back system cost $60 and works great. Sounds awesome when directly behind it or in the car, not too loud but it's mean enough to turn most heads and stop people from pulling up beside me at the stop lights.
Dynomax is better than "Slowmaster"
If you want sound go for slowmasters
If you want to make more power go with Dynomax.
A friend of mine brought both mufflers to the track he ran .1 faster with the dynomax BUT he liked the sound of slowmaster better.

If you want sound and performance, get the Hooker Aero Chamber, this muffler comes with the cat back. Sound clip is in the signature.
Slowmaster?!?!?! whatever...
Most crossflow-style mufflers suck at building power...Especially Flowmaster. However, Flowmaster is known for making power with single in/out mufflers and it shows. Their new Delta Force racing mufflers flow approx 840 cfm from the 2 chamber version - plenty for most. The muffler for our cars is 9430439. It sounds mellow (well...compared to the open headers I was running) and it gives a nice snarl (even with a cat). After I pass emissions, I will replace the cat with a 3" straight pipe and get a sound clip - MAN it wil be NASTY!
