i really don't think that a clogged up cat would do that. do you have the stock q-jet or not.... because if you do the secondaries don't really open very wide ever. the sucking noise is just the carb getting air its normal. what i did is got a non-computer controled carb, new distributor and got rid of that q-jet and im happy with that. it is costly but worth every dime.

its the stock carb Q-jet
there is definately something wrong cuz my car will do nothing but bog past 1/2 throttle or so....its horrible
and the secondaries DO open bigger than they are now cuz i remember when i was adjusting the A/V tension they would open pretty far......and i probably WILL do that swap....but that will b when i get a new motor for it....its not really worth it on this motor

if you have any vac secondary carb and then put a restriction in the exhaust (like your clogged cat) you will have them open slower and prolly not as much
the problem is the backpressure from the clog in the cat will prevent that spent mixture from getting out of the cyl so since you have less volume in the cyl to pull in a fresh intake charge you are not going to pull as much vac therefore slowing down your opening of the second plates in the carb
or so I am thinking
