header dilemma, help?

Hey guys...

My 92 Z28 has a hooker aerochamber 3" catback with a brand new cat converter. i'm looking to get some headers over summer, but being a semi-broke college student I can't REALLY justify spending about $1 100 Canadian on a set of good headers that are coated for about a 10-15hp gain over what I have...
are there any alternatives out there for a cheaper price? damn I wish SLP would drop their price $100 they would sell a HELL of a lot more... ahh well.

How about hookers, are they cheaper? I don't want totally cheapass headers that will leak... looking to spend maybe $400 for a set of headers... what are my options? i would LIKE to get them coated... but I guess for that price range it's not gunna happen

thanks for any help guys...

I would suggest getting Hedmans with O2 bung, their y-pipe, and getting them coated. You'll still probably bust your $400 budget, but that's about as close as you're going to get.

The Hookers are good quality, but more than you want to spend. Nobody seems to argue that SLPs are the best, but best value is a personal decision.

You shouldn't worry about just cheap headers leaking. Unfourtunatly every header for a gm small block is prone to leaking. Putting them on correctly will prevent this (ie. lots rtv sealent on the gaskets, loc-tight on the bolts, and re-torqing them every 500 miles or so). I am with you in the poor college student catagory, go MSU, so I went with a cost effective route. This post outlines what I did and shows some pics:
