Hooker Headers

Hey

I have a 1985 IROC Z Camaro with the 305 TPI engine. I am planning on getting some headers, I called up the local high performance shop and they told me that hooker headers would be my best bet becuase they fit nice and are good quality. Does anyone out there have hooker headers on there TPI engine.

How do the hooker headers fit on ur TPI engine. What kinda sound do u get from the hooker headers, Is it a mean grumble, and is it louder then stock, How much louder then stock. And last how much HP do u think that I will pick up by bolting on a set of hooker headers.

Thanks alot

I don't qualify completely to answer your questions, since I don't have TPI. But, they are intended for '86-up TPI single-cat systems. Your cat won't bolt up to them, but that's a fairly simple matter of upgrading the rest of your system to the later style.

They do fit nice and are good quality. Spark plug access is limited, but that's the case with most any header. Follow the instructions they include. You will have to modify a couple of things, like PS/AC bracket.

The sound is more affected by the muffler and cat than the headers, but it will most likely be slightly louder. I did my exhaust from heads to bumper in one shot, so I couldn't really tell you how much each component affected the sound.

HP increase is typically 10-20%, depending upon how bad your old system was, and how much else you do to improve your setup. The more other things you have done, the more benefit headers will have on power.
