Can I Pass Emissions with non-egr headers??

hey guys

I want to get a set of heddmen hedders and a Y pipe, I'm pretty sure the headers don't have an AIR hose or whatever. Also, can you just drill a hole for the O2 sensor or something??

Thanks for any info

also,
does my car have A.I.R.? and is the o2 sensor in the exhaust manifold??

It is an 85 LG4.

Could I get the shorty headers on this page:

If they do a visual check under the hood, no you won't. I know one time the guy opened my hood to see if the parts I replaced would qualify me for a waiver, and he saw I had the AIR tubes plugged, he noticed right away.

The visual check isn't a problem, the guys will let us off, but will it pass otherwise??

I'm not sure if my car has AIR or not, i looked and couldn't see anything, not even an o2 sensor?
Does the 85 LG4 not have this emissions stuff, or do I just not know what to look for??:lala:

It should have had A.I.R., O2 sensor, EGR, etc., originally. The A.I.R. should be fairly obvious, with tubes sticking in the exhaust manifolds, rubber hoses going from pump to diverter valve to manifolds, etc. The O2 sensor is located in the driver's side exhaust manifold, just above the connection to the y-pipe. You have to look down beyond the spark plug wire shields to see it.

The system will operate and pass sniffer without A.I.R. on the headers (the flow goes to the cat in closed loop operation), so as Mark said, it's only visual that would get ya. You do need the O2 sensor, though, so the computer knows how to control things. Without it, the SES light will come on, the carb will go rich, and you'll fail for sure.

Thanks for all the help guys!!

well, I found the O2 sensor, but I definately do not have AIR

so I just have to weld in a bung in the headers for the sensor?

Is that harmful to the car in any way?

with the exception of the exhaust......the motor in my sig fast passed emmissions. same motor, not a single carb screw turned, no ignition parts changed, just pumped it through edelbrock headers and y-pipe, new $70 cat from napa, and a 2.5" flowmaster 80series catback. if you arent burning oil, running extremely rich, and you have a good functioning cat......you will pass.

What I have to say.

Lol my 305 ran pretty rich when I started it up (big cloud of smoke come out of the exhaust like my car just fired up a big fat joint) but then there wasn't any more smoke... Cat rattles too, might as well pull that damn thing off (no emissions testing where I live) but hope I don't get caught without it, 5,000 dollar fine for not havin one. Likeliness of getting caught is about the same as the likeliness of hell freezing over, but still. Anyways, I feel sorry for everyone who has to go through emissions testing. I hate the fact that states and counties can tell people what they can and cannot have on their cars. A better approach to it is for the Federal government to require all car manufacturers to include AIR systems and all that emissions BS, but owners can remove it or do whatever they like. Think about it, how many people out there give a damn about their exhaust system on their vehicle? We're a very small group of people compared to the millions of people who don't care anything more about cars than the amount of seats and cupholders it has.

if you still have the air pump, just hook a hose from it directly to the air tube to the cat. i did this and i passed emissions. i have no egr or air tubes on my headers.
