Anyone run B&M shifter without the factory console?

I'm wondering if anyone has installed a B&M megashifter without their factory console installed? My 86 is stripped out for racing so i want to use a b&m megashifter with just the little 'console' that comes with it around the shifter mechanism. Can it be done with just the generic (not model specific) shifter? Very easy?

Thanks!

well

I was thinking about doing the same thing so if you need a console one I got one I will give you. They just sell the shell to go around it at Jegs. Not to expensive too.

if you dont have a console, any good shifter will work. the only problem is if you want to run a shifter AND the console...
when i wanted to use a prostick (because the megashifter sucks IMO) i had to space it up to stick out of the console... and then that made it so the cable had to connect farther out(so it didnt crimp to angle down) and well.. it was alot of work..

but if you dont have a console, you can just bolt it down and not have any probs...

lol, matter of fact, i have a B&M prostick for sale.

... absolutly the best ratchet shifter ive ever used. comes with both the 4spd GM plate (installed) and the 3spd plate. if you have a powerglide, ford trans, or reverse valvebody, you can swap plates to fit it.
used, but everything is there, like new, in orignal box.. the only part that looks a lil worn is the orignal box itself.. just a lil sunfading.. it costs $130 new...... asking $90
looks like pic below.

btw, when i opened this thread, i had no intentions of selling my shifter, it just reminded me. :lala:

i also hate my megashifter but i got it for nothing so... ever since i installed it my reverse lights stay on. i want to change it but i already cut that factory plastic box out to solder the wires to the relays so its kinda a mess of wires down there. will that prostick work with a center consoul? and i cut away the factory plastic for the gear overlay.....sucks

You just need to adjust the microswitches on the shifter that control the neutral lockout and reverse lights.. (theres one for each)...

im thinking i have them backwards or something. the car starts and all, just the reverse lights stay on. i hate working in that small space also. im thinking when the warm weather comes around, im going to strip the interior and rewire everything. i have to anyways since i got the 4thgen interior and a roll cage going in.

i always thought removing the console would be a pain, so i never did it..

then i had to remove the console so i could cut the hole for my T56 swap.... its MUCH easier then you think... only took 5-10mins, and ive never done it before.... all the bolts are easy to get to...

just take it out before you mess with the shifter.

oh ive had the center out many times, MANY time. ive had the whole car apart and back togeather many times also, thats not the problem. i just get lazy sometimes and dont want to do it prob next month ill strip the interior again for the swap and the cage. i also need to finish sound deading the floors and sail panels. then ill look into what is causing the lights to stay on...

you think the switch is wired backwards or what?

switches dont have polarity... that is, its like touching the two wires together, so you cant have them backwards..

you could have the wrong wires hooked up though.

When I installed my megashifter I had the same problem with the reverse lights. Make sure the switches are tightly screwed into the body of the shifter and if you study them enough you can see how they are being turned on/off. You can bend the metal switch to make fine adjustments if it is not switching correctly (that is what I had to do) and now it works fine.

Good luck
