any fabricators please answer me this...

can this...http://www.jegs.com/cgi-bin/ncommerc...91&prmenbr=361 ... for under the price listed. i only need about a half inch of clearance. what would i be looking at to spend on getting these made or possibly making them myself? any special tools out of the price range that are needed to do this?

It is one more gasket on each side to leak.

other than taking a dremel to the runners on my intake i am left with no choice. i dont want to start grinding away aluminum because one i am afraid of grinding to much and two i want the motor to look nice, not fubared. i have a stock set, chrome aftermarket and a really nice set of m/t wrinkle finished valve covers. all three hit the runner edges on the intake and wont seat down properly.

if i got a hunk of metal and cut it away to the sizes i need then take it to the drill press an cut edges in the faces to seat against the head and valve cover, will it work? or am i gonna have to face the fact that i need to grind the intake. its a team g by weiand if that makes a difference.

I'm kinda confused, will those in the link not work for you or are you just trying to save some money? I read your sig and you have some nice stuff on there, don't get cheap now.

BTW, I'm no pro but I don't know how to hand build something like that with out it either leaking or looking like crap.

well i am a college kid and i cant justify spending 100 bucks for a freaking spacer for valve covers. it seems simple enough to take a inch or half inch sheet of alluminum or steel and cutting the round edged valve cover base then milling the bottom and top of the piece slightly smaller in width so that it makes a D) type shape. look at this sideways. the head looks like a D basically where the valve cover would seat with the head. if i mill the bottom of the piece i make with a slightly smaller bit i would create this ) to cup the seal on the head. then i would use a silicone gasket maker or rubber gasket to seal the deal between the head and valve cover. sounds easier enough haha . i am just confused at what to do.

be easiest enough to make. use a gasket for a template and mill the spacer out.

you'd have to have a source of free or very low cost material or it'd be cheaper to buy.

do you know of any place that has half inch plates of steel or aluminum cheap. would the local farm store, i.e. farm and fleet or farm king, have something that is usable and cost efficient?

cheapest place would be from a recycler if you buy it cut somewhat to size i'd guess you're looking at 75 dollars.

another option would be to buy some flat aluminum stock, like .5x1 and weld it up in the correct form and then do a little milling and drilling.

If you are looking for cheap steel, I would go to a local steel provider and pick through there scrap bin. The place I go sells all there scrap, trim ends, or bent tubing for scrap price, which is about 1/2 a cent a pound for mild steel. Last time I needed plate steel, I went out back and pulled out a piece of 1/4'' plate, 2'x4' for $12.63.

No fabing up these spacers would cost subtantially more than purchasing the store bought items. Thats not to say that you counldn't do it but you won't be able to do it cheaper.

No offence, but if you don't think you can clearance your intake with a die grinder without mucking it up, you don't have the skills to fab these up.
