well, if you want to make one out of lesser flowing 3" pipe and put a sharp 90* bend right infront of the throttlebody, you can use what the firebirds are FORCED to use...
or get a LT1 elbow, and possibly a moroso LT1 CAI and make a hole in front of the fender where the vapor canister is...
athough id just stick to the better flowing stock piece.

i highly doubt the stock peice is higher flowing with the stock filters. If my friend is going to spend $75 on filters he might as well make the engine bay look better with the tubular system also.

it'll look nice.
Its super easy to do, all u need is a cone filter, a 4 to 3 inch rubber adapter, a PVC 90 degree bend, and about a 6 inch straight piece of pvc, and some 3" to 3" connectors and youre all done. to make the pvc look better paint it with some High temp Engine enamel paint. And dont listen to what some people on here who might tell that you PVC is bad. It WILL NOT melt and it actually dissipates heat better than metal.

I got a start on fitting a new box in but, haven't touched it since getting this far (this is just a working mockup)...

You’re causing turbulence and hurting flow by changing sizes (going from wider to narrower back wider…). You’re also screwing up your MAF readings by changing sizes before and after it.
Optimum is probably roughly the same ID as your maf from the filter to the MAF, and then gently tapering to the size of the TB, at no more then a 15* included angle (in most cases I’d shoot for about 10-12*). If you want a clue how to best do it, look at the SLP cold air setup, or just make a camaro setup work, it’s pretty good.
If you want it to look good, I’d skip all of this rigged stuff and weld up a custom, 1 piece pipe that gets rid of all the couplers… I’d probably even setup something as a flange for the TB so it actually bolted together.

I try to never miss a chance to post pics of my CAI. 3" mandrel bend mild steel. $12 each when purchased in quantity from westcoastbending.com over a year or so ago. Silicone hose and reducer adapter from baskerprecision.com. A little black paint, a little cutting with a sawsall, and an S&B Racing filter for $18+ shipping off of Ebay.

Its not for a MAF, but you get the idea. 3" pipe from local exhaust shop: free, K&N filter from local speed shop: $40. Can't be bad! Sorry for the pic quality, that happens when its bright out!!

Well, that hose coupler is hurting flow, it gets larger too fast and not smoothly enough. You want size changes to happen as gradually as possible. Hell, if you want to go totally optimum, you’d want to taper at a couple of degree angle getting smaller as you get toward the TB, you’d actually end up with a ram tuning effect, somewhat like the tapered runners of a properly designed intake manifold.
Looks OK (never been a big fan of using couplers for more then just coupling 2 parts together, no size changes or anything). How much did that ram air decal cost you? (I know what real ones run from the dealer, I’ve got a WS6 TA that had the decals replaced)

Yeah, I don't like my coupler either, its ugly not to mention a possible turbulence area. The "ram air" decal came with my RAII hood. Once I got the hood painted I decided not to rape it with stickers.

i made a nice inlet for my car i used an L1-1 elbow flip over pooints to pass. side and used 2 mandrel bent 45's with a turbonetics ruducer 4"-3.5" for the maf i removed the lower front apron panel and used a k&n cone filter for like a cummins dodge truck to extend down by the fog light hole. none the less it looks nice its not pvc and does its job well defintely needed it on my car factory equpment was cuasing a loud hissing sound at idle and stumble upon accelleration.
how do i post pics from a sony dig' camera
