Your Thoughts on This....
The way this has been drawn up, will this thing work? Basically the idea behind this is to add to the oil capacity of a stock oil pan on a SBC.
Also, if it works the way I think it would, you wouldn't need vented valve covers either, because you could vent the engine and fill it with oil from the tank.

I think -10 AN or -12 AN would work (don't want stuff crimping up on you)

In a way, this is almost how dry sump systems work so I'm fairly certain it would work to some extent. It wouldn't be a good as a real dry sump but it should do something.
Also this is similar to the Moroso AccuSump system, except they take pressurized oil from the system and pump it into a 2 or 3 quart container. As long as the pressure remains, the oil stays in the external "sump", when pressure drops off the oil flows out.
If you made your external tank out of aluminum it would also act as a heat sink for any oil that got into the tank.

I found the easiest way to add extra oil capacity is to use the largest filter you can fit. I found the ac delco pf25 was just too small. It's now called a pf452 or something, so go with the pf1218. It is twice the capacity and filter media. Also comes with a decent anti-drain back valve not found in the stock recommended filters.
Another options is an oil cooler with inline remote mount filter adaptor. This is what I plan on doing because highway trips with 3.73 gears (2800rpm) gets the oil pretty hot.
Another idea I have is to replace the drain plug with an line that I can tie up to the bottom of the car. It'll have a plug and to change my oil I'll just reach up under the front fender, unhook the line, let it hang, unplug and drain. Change the filter from under the front bumper cover. That would just make changine oil SO simple. No longer would I need to jack the car up and I'd have reduced my oil temps. I think it could be done for under $100 if I shop around for the parts.

The other idea doesn't sound half bad, but I'm paranoid and like to inspect everything while I'm doing the oil change.
