diesel motor?
I know chevy but one in the full size blazers, never messed with one personally, I do know its the same engine thats in the hmmwv (aka hummer) that the military uses, and that the cylinder heads are identical (yes I have known of more than one motor transport/maintainence guy who bought a blazer because the major engine parts were the same and with some crafty paper work....free) but I will say that although I think the military versions of the vehicle are incredible, I have jumped them in the neighborhood of ten feet vertically, done laps diving it over the edge of a three foot loading dock for close to an hour, and even seen them with control arms so bent (although try as i might, I never managed to hurt one, made me wonder what the other guys were doing) the wheels wobbled + or - 10 degrees easily, yet still drivable, sort of, but the motor in those things is a worthless dog, it pulls like a sick horse, and although it can pound over almost anything, and its one of if not the fastest land combat vehicles in the world, how can you be proud of beating a 10 ton vehicle in a drag race, let alone a 60 ton tank, anyway
the blazer motor is the only one I think would go into the camaro very easily, and its completely worthless, and pretty pricey, it may be bolt in, or with some minor motor mount mods
what I've always wanted to check out was putting a 502 in a hummer, ditching some of the land mine protection, and keeping the same indestructable drive train, imagine driving down the street and just hammering over curbs at will, taking out fences, offending vehicles, that could get scary fun

I think your talking about the 6.5 turbo diesel? My dad's work 1995 gmc has one, I'd say the old 6.2 blazer motor would be the easiest swap as far as tranny options I think you could bolt up any sbc transmission. Not sure about the newer 6.5, you'd prolly have to run the 4L80 that comes w/it which is not a bad thing as far as the tranny goes. Have fun swapping computer and wiring w/the turbo motor though. If your going to go so far as to swap a 6.5turbo and it's corresponding transmission, why not just put a dodge cummins' in there? Try asking in the engine swap forum, you might get more info. I think the hot ticket would be a duramax out of a new HD pickup, the aftermarket for the new trucks offers a TON of parts like propane injection kits. I'd want some major rubber out back mickey thompson's so wide all you can see is the rear diff. cover would be a good drag car I think.

The only thing that comes to mind is why?
Where Im from, we have a lot of american dielel cars (Suburban, Caprice, Custom Cruiser, Chevy Van etc.) but that is only because gas is over 4€ (close to 4$) per gallon, and diesel is a lot cheaper.
Dont get me wrong, go for it! I've never heard of a diesel thirdgen and it would be interesting, but I just don't see any benefit in it...

I cant see why anyone would want to put a diesel into a third gen unless you were wanting a rattling turd......

If you swapped in a DuraMax it would be a pretty cool ride I bet, you would have to change the gearing about 25-30% to take advantage of the torque and low RPM range, the 300HP and 520 Lb. of torque could push the car to a pretty good 1/4 mile time I bet, as well as getting 35-40 MPG on the Hwy.

Take a long look at maintenance/repair costs before you think about using a DuraMax. They are BIG MONEY to fix when they break. Other than that....I'd say it would make for one hell of a wild ride. The torque will be insane, and imagine the look on people's faces when you crank the car up!!! Fitting it under the hood will be an interesting challenge though.

gm had a deisel version of the olds 350. The earlier ones were nothing but trouble, but right when GM started to get the problems worked out the motor's rep was already ruined and they quit making it. The later ones are supposed to be fairly reliable though.

Ever put any injectors in them? That's a nice little project, and a recurring one for most DuraMax owners. GM has come right out and admitted that the design is bad, but they won't update it. One of my customers had to have the full set of injectors replaced 3 times under warranty before it expired. Next time they go out, he'll be paying us to do it.

As far as the rest of this discussion goes, I’d love for someone to clearly explain WHY they would want a diesel in an f-body

Because it would be wicked cool to tow your trailer-queen thirdgen to the track with another thirdgen painted to match.

well it sounds like we have a project to conquer ljnowell.....LOL
i have a 91 rs parts car in the garage ....hmm who wants to donate the diesel engine and wiring harness thats needed
all we have to do is weld some pipes in the suspension to keep it from dropping then take out the hatch and put a 5th wheel hitch in it ...LMAO
could you see this P.O.S. running down the road chattering like hell .....LMAO

Hehehe...take out the hatch and put a notchback on it. Then chop a hole for the 5th wheel, or use a gooseneck ball. You could be like that one guy I saw on eBay and stick tandem axles under the car too.
This is getting just a wee bit ridiculous guys.

interesting idea
ok I would be lieing if I said that putting a diesel into a third gen never crossed my mind. I'm currently in school for diesel technology and I thought of doing it for a project except its EXPENSIVE first you have the engine itself, then you need a tranny to handle all the torque (not just HP), then you need gears in the rear end to handle the output of the tranny. ok as if that isn't enough a diesel is heavy so you would be looking at upgrading the entire suspension, plus sfc's plus a cage. anyway it would still be a good project, someone donate a car and funds and some more funds and I'll give it a shot

Towing with an f-body… you’ve got to be kidding. The low towing capacity is not because of power/torque, but because of frame and brake considerations. Think about it, there are 305/350 + TH700r4 + 3.42 gears (with >30” tall tires) equipped gm fullsize trucks that have a stock towing capacity in the 7-8000# range. That same basic combination with a beefier tranny and a lower compression TBI 350 (190hp) was what moved the 2500 and 3500 trucks through most of the 90’s.

However, I have never seen more than a weal hitch made for these cars. I dont even think I have seen a class 3.

Re: diesel motor?
I am contemplating it there is a 69 camaro that gets 38mpg and runs low 10s
I have a 2003 2500 2wd sitting in my driveway that was rolled and a 91 camaro in the garage with no engine so I just need a good reason to do it
