Your battery in your trunk
Your battery in your trunk
Relocating the battery to the trunk for weight transfer is relatively easy to do, but I'm interested in hearing exactly where you guys put yours, how you mounted it, and lastly how you vented it and where to?
I really don't like the look of those plastic battery boxes, nor do I want to pay the price for a stainless one from summit or whatever. I want to be able to put my battery in the trunk and somehow seal it off from the rest of the car. I'm looking for ideas. Actually they don't even have to be third gen if they can be adapted to a third gen it would be ok.

i bought the BMR relocation kit and moved my battery back in the spare tire compartment. i also have a Optima battery which is sealed and has no battery acid (for like a gel instead of water). so thers no problems about venting. ill try and snag a picture for you tomarrow if its not raining.
im goin to be takin it out soon since i had some rust damage back there and how it mounts it split the seam on the i think wheel well/ 1/4 panel area. looks like an easy fix but looks are decieving.

i work at the drag track here..ihra rules say you need a approved box vented to the outside and also a switch to shut it off.if you plan to do any racing

you could also build some sort of firewall you dont need the box and vent then.heres our rule if it can help you.. -All batteries must be securely mounted and may not be relocated into the drivers or passenger compartment. The use of rubber tie downs or j-hooks are prohibited. All relocated batteries must have a master shut off switch located outside of vehicle and clearly marked on/off. Trunk mounted batteries must be separated from drivers compartment by a firewall or be contained in a Steel or an IHRA approved poly box and be securely mounted with minimum 3/8 diameter fasteners.
