I just aquired a cold air induction assembly off an '82 or '83 firebird from a junk yard this weekend. Has anyone fabricated one of these to their later model firebird with either a carb or TBI. I was not able to get the air cleaner assembly as it was already missing from the car. I was thinking of remove the flap that opened to let the air in so that it was drawing freash cold air all the time and fabricating some sort of totally closed off air cleaner assembly to mate with the hood portion.

Has anyone ventured this direction before?

That's close to what I want to do. But I want to incorporate the stock induction hood assembly that I picked up. But it does give me some idea's to work with. Mostly with how to fabricate the lower portion.

Has anyone else used the hood assembly from an '82 or '83??

The aircleaner cover for the "Cowl induction" setup on the 82-84 cars had a double aircleaner cover.

There is an inner and an outer, the inner one covers just the air filter, the outer one goes to the edge of the aircleaner. THen there is a large rubber gasket that mates between the aircleaner and the hood pickup.

Any idea if there is anywhere that I can buy this air cleaner housing from, like some reproduction catalog or website. I didn't find anything with "Year One".

I would love to be able to see a picture of this original set up.

Here is the assembly as it would be found as if the hood was closed (no engine of course)

And the disassembled parts...

The hole in the upper lid is in line with the other air tube that comes off to the side of the engine. THere are 2 small notches that tell you where to line it up to.

i have the part to the far right of that picture, with the motor. have no use for it, make me offer, but what i was really wondering was were i could find the gasket that is used for the upper piece of that hood, its about 4" wide and about 16" long, the small honeycome grill bolts to this piece
