ok a buddy of mine has an 81 camaro with a multi leaf on it. 10 bolt 8.5 rear. he wants to put a 3 link setup like on third gens. possible not possible, anyone done it? i told him id ask you guys.

A 3 link is something like what the ’05 mustang uses, 2 LCA’s and 1 UCA with some form of lateral location added.

3rd/4th gens use a sliding link torque arm suspension (there is also just a plain torque arm suspension like the one used on the GNX).

As far as retrofitting, anything is possible, and if you’re looking for something that works well both in a straight line and on the road course then it’s a pretty good choice. I’d suggest looking at the torque arm kits available for 79-04 mustangs for ideas of how to do it on the 2nd gen.

 

thanks for replying. so do thirdgens not have a 3 link suspension? when i think of 3 link, i think of three suspension components ie control arms, panhard bar, and torque arm, connecting to the rearend. someone please correct me if im wrong!
