Need to Know a Good Way to Block a 4" Cowl for Street use...

I've got a 4 inch cowl and would like to make some thing to "plug" the cowl for when it gets moist outside. Any suggestions???

cut up a foam block to the correct size. you can buy them at any fabric store. its the same idea as a plug scoop for a race car.

i've never had a problem with rain getting into my engine compartment with my cowl hood. it would have to rain near horizontal for that to be a problem.

I've had issues with mine LOL. Wash the car, pop the hood and a whole chit load of water comes bailing out of it, really makes me made since it's soapy water

I always wondered how well these cowls work, let me tell ya, if you ever get leaves that fall on your car and your going down the road, it's like a shop vac on roids when you get upto speed, the leaves just get sucked up under there quicker than #hit!!

My cowl has the lip to stop the water, and a screen to stop the leaves. I don't know what it would be like without the lip.

mine has a lip, but when I open the hood a TON of water gets every where. I think I am going to get a screen made. I am thinking about mounting 3 oil gauges on the top of the lip... you guys see any problems with that?

Are you guys referring to a hood like this.

That's a harwood 4" cowl in the picture --> stolen from this thread.

As for mounting gauges that's pretty common. My Glasstech 4" was pre-punched out for mounts on it.

I actually mounted mine to the hood itself. I believe just about all of the fiberglass cowls come with that lip for ridigity other wise normal road abuse would make it flimsy as helll.

I should make that a little more clear. My hood was setup to accept the gauge on the hood not on the lip. But I've seen them on the lip or even cutouts into the screen and mounted there.

Here's my GlassTech one no lip in sight.

I imagine glassteks are just made that way. (Man I butcher'd the name earlier didn't I). Anyways have you had any problems with rain or flexing from not having the lip?

I was refering to the lip as the piece that ran under the cowl... My cowl is like the one in the last picture.

By "lip" I meant the overhang towards the windshield at the top of the cowl.
