my welding mask is known to CA to cause cancer
my welding mask is known to CA to cause cancer
... anyone know what that actually means? This is what the label on the auto-darkening mask says, "know to state of California to cause cancer" So does CA know something other 49 states don't know? Or does the mask only cause cancer within CA state lines because that's how special it is?
Do you have to eat the mask before you get sick or is holding it next to you enough to get cancer?

Cal is more strigenth than the Federal GOv
Just means there is a chance that it might cause cancer.
well, I assumed the chance was there. What I don't get is how??? I realize that could be using chemicals or something that are known to raise the risk, but unless you constantly lick the mask or something....

Everything is known to the state of california to cause cancer.
So far the only thing I can come up with is that california causes cancer.

If there is some kind of electric voltage passing through it, to let it auto dim, this voltage might be a cause. Kind of like how radar guns laying in cops laps, makes them impotent. But that is just my theory. I don't even know how those masks work.

And I am pretty possitive I drive more like an *** in that cuz I hate how long it takes to get goin. Anyways, this thread is about welding. I will stop, haha

maybe they assume you are going to weld the mask to your head, and that is going to give you cancer. but hey, its ok... its not like cancer is THAT bad.

what kind of filler would you recommend for a plastic to skin joint? lol
but yeah, they are probably referring to the welding itself, not the mask. uv rays, plume, its gonna get ya one way or another if youre not safe

It could be the electro-magnetic field created by the little solar panel that dims the lens when you strike an arc.

it's the way they test for cancer in CA. they take a lab rat and inject twice the rats body weight with whatever they're testing. All that mass makes the rat look like a huge tumor with a head, a tail and claws so they call it cancer and then collect $1,000,000 for doing the test. They test for eye damage the same way. Having a welding mask inserted into your eye is bad.

off topic a little bit.. but i don't think there would be as many people in the world as there are now if we let the laws of nature insue . you know "survival of the fitest". I mean... anyone who is going to suck down bleach, or try and weld thier own hand to a piece of metal... well.. ya know... I mean.. there are safty warnings on everything now... what makes them think... that if a person is dumb enough to put a battery in thier mouth.... that they can comprehend the warning on the label???

Darwin must be rolling in his grave.
If you shove a welding mask up a lab rats a**, the end result could be easily mistaken for some extreme form of cancer.
Stupid people do stupid things and then their lawyer makes them rich. Imagine if something like stairs or bathtubs were invented just a year ago, considering more people get killed by them than a plane crash or terrorist attack there would be all kinds of lawsuits.

This guys got mad skillz yo!
I'm just curious why something can be cancerous wikin the borders of California, but a few feet into Nevada it's allllll good. I'm gonna agree wik whoever said it's just Califonia itself that is cancerous.

You can't honestly believe that's how they do the testing now do you?
They test makeup by filling a goats eye up with mascara or lipstick or whatever and that can cause blindness.

you wanna know whats really sad? Certian types of chemotherapy can rarely cause leukemia. Tell me how that makes any sense?
Doctor: Well, it seems you have a small tumor in your chest thats cancerous. We are going to treat you with chemotherapy.
Patient: Oh, well that sucks a$$. What kind of side affects am i looking at?
Doctor: well, nothing too bad, ummm, lets see...constipation, die-a-rea, leukemia, you know run of the mill stuf...
Re- freaking- cockulous!!!

a little off topic but if you notice medication commercials now a days, the list of sideeffects most often has a side effect that is worse than what you are trying to get rid of. it would be like taking a pill to get rid of a migraine and ending up with a headache, chest pains and diarrea.... i would settle for the migraine thanks...
Oh yea. and don't orget about some of them that have the rare chance to cause DEATH...... talk about a heck of a side effect huh.

This is strange, my mask actually decreases the chance of cancer.
See, sometimes I forget to take the smoke out of my mouth before flipping the mask.
Must have been that last 7.2.....

as far as welding goes, i'd be more worried about the 2% thoriated tungsten then the mask. the mask ain't radioactive

I think we need to put a ton of dynamite on the border and see if we cant seperate it. We will keep trying until we succeed, then they will be there own country. We could call it.....nothing, because the name would probably cause cancer.

Some of the alloys which are high in nickel and mercury seriously are illegal to weld in Cali.
Hastelloy and Inconel are two that I'm sure of,I'll do some checking at work,I know that there are more.It is also illegal to grind on these materials there.
If I'm not mistaken,Titanium is another one,but I'm not positive.

well, if CA wants to be A holes about it, then they need to give up anything they have that required welding or grinding on those nasty materials. No Titanium, Hastelloy or Inconel for the misfits.

oh sure.. you can't weld things and produce things in california that they deam illegal, yet asking them to give up those same things that are made elsewhere would probably throw them all into fits..

The legislature in California knows that inevitably Californian's will either mutate into a living cancer from all the trash in Hollywood (the polution is pretty bad their as well from what I hear) , and/or California will break off from the US to go hang with Alaska and Hawaii .
Its all explained here The end of the world explained
Maybe its not so bad to be in California...

50,000 years from now people will stumble on the fossils of people who live in hollywood and I wonder what they'll think when they find all those plastic and silicone pieces that they have installed. There's so many people in hollywood who can't move their upper lip anymore.

Back to the topic, more than likely as already mentioned the warning is about the fumes caused by welding, not the helmet itself. Welding in a well ventilated area will solve that. I had a terrible time with fumes getting into my mask until I got a down-draft cabinet. I modified it for use when welding and also have a fan blowing on me. No more welding fume problem.

Last I recall, not a lot of us Californians fleeing your folks way...seems the majority keep coming here...wonder why that is?

I would venture because it is on a coastline, lots of pretty girls, and looks to be a decent place to actually be able to find work, since most of the industry is located on the coasts.. And people tend to here alot more about hurricanes destroying things on the east coast than earthquakes on the west.. so naturally they will go west over east figureing less problems.

Competitive people really like the larger cities in California. It's good to be competitive sometimes but no one really likes it when everyone is just hanging out trying to have some fun together and someone has to constantly establish that he thinks he's better then everyone else there. These people feel usually have an inferiority complex and they think the can make up for this buy living in a place like California where the constantly try to out impress each other. Most of them really can't do anything that's very impressive so the make themselves feel better buy putting others down buy calling them things like "twit" and/or taking advantage of their bad luck. It's like winning a race because the driver you're competing against got run over in the pits by some idiot and you claim victory because he didn't make it to the starting line in time. Personally I wouldn't even pull up to the line unless there was someone in the other lane, I want to race someone when they're in their best form. Because these people usually have no talent, the make up for it by buying expensive things and having plastic surgery. To me, this is a horrible and shallow life. Yes, there are some good people out there but it's a very rare thing and it's extremely rare to come across these people. I don't have fun trying to convince myself that I'm better than anyone else, I have fun sharing good times with friends that I can trust, honor, and respect.

one more thing- one of the bigger reasons your state is getting so crowded is because it encourages illegal immigrants to come there. This is a slap in the face to all working class Americans. I don't want to hear about business owners who might go out of business if the illeagles are deported, that's just tough sh*t on them. These people who hire the illeagles are not playing by the rules, they undermine any of their competition who Is playing buy the rules with lower costs and then they have the audacity to complain they're going to go out of business? Apparently these rule breakers have been handing out some really fat envelopes at Christmas time to the right people. California needs to stop acting so special and privileged and start acting like one of the states. Any questions? Pull our troups out of Iraq and use then to secure our borders as originaly intended.

Yes, I have a question.
Are you still on the soapbox, or getting down?
Stereo-typing is such a wonderful thing.
I guess I should hate New York, because it's mob infested, full of muggers, etc, etc...or maybe I should hate the thought of going to Alaska, after all...there's only igloos and Eskimos there...or how about South Carolina...nothing but a bunch of *******s, huh? How about Georgia...never would even think of going to a Clan infested state, would I?
Or maybe my above thoughts are just plain wrong?
BTW, competition breeds excellence....in all walks of life, whether it's the denims you're wearing, or the computer your typing on.
I won't even comment on the "encourages illegal immigrant" thing...you obviously live in a very, very small world.
Regarding border patrol, get real...half way up the Eastern Seaboard has the same issues...Californmia, Texas, etc, etc...all have the same problems...too many open ways in, not enough people. If you think the Miltary is the answer, you'd probably have to double the size of it...personally I'd prefer my Miltary forces defending the US and terrorism, than worrying about stopping seasonal workers who are trying to feed thier family.
You sound like an "Angry Young White Man"...I hope age mellows you some.
