Where can i buy a small block of aluminum?

Where can i buy a small block of aluminum?
anyone know where i can buy a block of aluminum stock.. like 1" thick by 6"??

Yeah, open up your phone book's yellow pages to "aluminum" If the city you live in is a decent size, there should be a few suppliers listed. Make sure you know what alloy you want when you call to avoid sounding like a dumbass.

It will definitely be cheaper if you can find someplace local and pick through their "scraps". However, if you definitely *need* to have something, the above should be able to take care of you.

...also the third dimension there helps... 1"x6" by....?
I buy from metal supermarket, they supply to everyone (business', handymen, etc), $1 per cut, and you can get any size/shape, good prices too. They're also one of the few open on saturday, and can deliver. (they're known as the convience store of the metal industry...)
Remember, you want 6061AL, don't pay an arm and a leg for some heat treated, precision ground billet.... I just got a chunk of 6"x3/4" bar AL, 1' long, for $25 to give you an idea.

the comany i work for, Fastenal, sells Aluminum barstock by the inch. for the 1x6" size you can get both 2024 (part# 0984197) and 6061 (part# 0984422). you can got to www.fastenal.com and search for your closest branch.

you just need some rust and mag ribbon to make... um, whoops. i mean, good luck fabricating stuff

just use the aluminum brick he origonally was asking about to make the powder. sonix has the right idea
