Shaker hood scoop?!

Yes, I have decided to fabricate my own shaker hood scoop. I know i will need to attach it over my carb and put an airfilter on somehow. However my biggest problems will be finding where to mount it, where to find the weatherstripping, and how to make it look good. I want it to look like this harwood fiberglass hood scoop, however i want it to be seperate from my hood, and attach straight over my carbereutor. I realize i will have to cut a hole out of my hood once im done and i realize that this wont be easy. I am up to the challenge and have nothing to do until some of my parts get in from summit. Help?

Most people are going to tell you to back it up with something a little bit more badass than a stock tbi.

Anyway, the best way to do it seems to be to make a sheetmetal base for it and put the weatherstriping around the bottom (like on the 70's cars) and then in the sheetmetal base you cut a hole and put a filter over it and seld that onto your stock aircleaner top. Search for "shaker assembly on a third gen" for a complete how-to.

Would it be better if i went with the shaker hood scoop assembly that came stock on the 79 trans am's? I was thinking that design wouldnt give me as much air flow, but it works on the same priniciples as a cowl induction hood so i guess if i modify it, it can take in enough air. right? Oh and my L03 block is definitely going to be worthy of having a shaker hood.

Correct if i am wrong but last i looked under a 2nd gen TA the shaker hood wasn't funstional(it had the 6.6). I could be wrong here.

But its been done there is a picture of it on here somewhere.

Ive been searching everywhere to see if a shaker has been done on a 3rd gen and im sure it has, but i havent found a functional, well done one yet. And i know that year one and other musclecar places sell kits to make it functional, however i would probably just have the air go straight into an air cleaner and then to the carb.

Did you search for the thread I told you to? That one was done right and is functional.

hmmurdock_00, the shaker hood on the '78+ (I think) was not functional. The earlier ones were.

They make a filter to fit the inlet on the Harwood aero scoops. Also, the T/A shakers were easy to make functional, all you had to do was cut out the two fake panels. Depending on your power level, you could mount a (or 2) panel filter inside the scoop.

Axle/Gears: huh?? guessing stock.
if you are just trying to figure out a way to mount the scoop to the carb, lyou might try something like http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?autofilter=1∂=CSI%2D69000&N=%2D144826+115&autoview=sku
Mount your scoop to this, and I believe this is mounted to your carb.

Oh heck, here are a few ore options.... Scoop to Carburetor Isolating Trays - summitracing.com

Not to hijack your thread or anything but its on topic. I am installing a weiand 142 and i have a feeling its not gonna fit under my 2 1/2 cowl. How would that scoop look as a shaker coming out of a 2 1/2 cowl. I've been trying to picture it put not sure if it would look good or not. Any input would help, thanks.

My car is black. How do i post pics, cause i kinda did that yesterday but in paint and it actually looks pretty good. Maybe i won't do as shaker though and just mount it on the cowl but set it in a bit so its not sticking out to high. If anyone can help me post this pic i could show what it could look like.
Thanks for the reply

I use imageshack.us to do my pic hosting, just go to, ImageShack® - Hosting, and upload it there, then get the link to the pic (very last one given) and paste the adress into the image uploader

don't make fun of my copying and pasting skills. I dunno whos car this is but it was at a perfect angle to do this one.

Let me know what you think, you kinda have to imaging the hood sunk it just a lil bit more.
Maybe i would just actually attach it to the hood and forget the shaker, i dunno. any ideas

I like the way that looks, just a lil big. But that def shows that wit would looks pretty good. I'll see if i can find a smaller scoop and maybe just mount it to the hood, would save me the time of makin a shaker, plus there not point in havin a shaker when you have the back of the cowl open to, i mite as well get air from the scoop and the back of the cowl. Thanks for the post

Ok, i can get a shaker hood assembly from JC whiteney, and they also offer professional installation. And i was wondering if that proffessional installation meant that i could get the hole for the shaker assembly cut out for me, and just pay them to do it and install it ontop of the other parts like the base for me. Would they do that? or would they just plop it over the base then tell me i need to get the hole cut somewhere else?
