Has anyone chopped there auto shifter?

What shifter do you posess, your stock shifter can be customized but it is a pain in the butt, aftermarket such as the B&M mega shifter would require too much work because of chrome plating and the B&M logo down the lenght of the shifter, welding the shifter would leave a bead that would have to be ground down and would be possible to break, if the metal is weldable, the factory can be cut down re notched for the shifter button and the plastic piece in the tube must be cut just right for the button to still work.

if you shorten the stock shifter, the **** will hit the console when you shift it into the lower positions....i had an auto shift **** that sat down lower on the stick than the stock one and ran into this problem, so im sure shortening the stock one, it will have the same effect.

Mine is a stock shifter that has been shortened dramtically. I have no problems at all.
However I have a B&M sitting next to me going in soon.

yeah, why would you want to shorten an auomatic shifter? it's not like shortening your throw on an automatic is going to improve driving at all. Originally Posted by iansane

Snake head shifter ?? Not talking about the chrome Cobra shift **** from *cough* Kragen and Pepboys ?
I'm wondering if I can adapt the shifter arm from a Cougar to my Camaro *L*, because I love the shifter **** on it *L* but I couldn't take the damn thing apart at the junkyard

also a auto short shifter has a better feeling when you manually run throught the gears. I had a friend who did it to a fiero.

that doesn't look too bad and now i understand why you want to shorten it.
Yeah the main problem is you have about 1/4 of a inch clearence from the button to the dash bezel. So you can't even get your hand back there.
