Custom 1/8 Scale Iroc RC Drag Car
Custom 1/8 Scale Iroc RC Drag Car
hello well i am new and i would like to introduce myself. my name is Daniel Legrand
and i would like to share my third gen iroc. ok well i know this is probably not the correct forum to put this in but i have done a lot of fabricating so i suppose it best fits. this is my latest rc project. it is a 1/8 scale monogram model body with a custom tube chassis with real fourlink, aluminum coilovers, aluminum wheels and much more. i have been working on this thing here and there for 6 months.
there is still much to go but i have gotton it running. it launches like a real car, wheelie, torque twist, everything. eventually it will be mettallic burnt orange,, feature scale interior, motor, wheelie bar, lights, and so much more. it is a brushless electric powered rc. planning on getting it featured in some of the rc car magazines out there once finnished cause it is one of a kind and fairly well know across the rc community already. so i thought you all would appriciate the time and effort put into this toy, and since i got most of the inspiration from right here on thirdgen.org. so tell me what you think, and if it needs to be moved could a moderator please place it in the correct location. thanks.
Daniel Legrand
ps i have tons of photos from the build so if the response is well i will add more photo and info.

before the rebuild...

and as it currently sits awaiting me to finnish remaking the hood. i plan on smoothing it back out to normal and adding either a traditional style cowl hood or a pro stock areo scoop.

thanks

That is really cool, I would love to have one like it.. You should make a video of it launching. The bottom pictures look so realistic. Nice job.

Re: Custom 1/8 Scale Iroc RC Drag Car
OK, now that looks really cool and I can't think of any other forum for it to belong to.
It looks like you brazed the roll cage together. In the old before outside shots, the old roll bar is way too low. The cage looks much better. It even looks like a 25.1D chassis.
I like the satin black color. Mine may look like that next year. I'm changing my 6" cowl scoop to a 2-1/2" cowl scoop with a very short aero scoop mounted on top of it.

finding a 1/8 is gonna be hard. most are 1/10 or 1/12. this car is totally custom and isn't going to something you could go out and buy. if you were interested in a body or model kit hit ebay up but prepare to pay $$$ for a good model. i need another one cause i broke the back window for this one
these are some videos i made a week or so ago. since then i redid the gear box and on a good batt it will lift both wheels up. still working out the weight placement on it to give it the launches i want. its gonna be more for show than go. i want it to launch like a real car and look like a real car but i don't wanna bash on it too much once its finnished. this is the first one i have had, but i would like to get some others. they make a 81 fire"chicken" and some various year vettes i wouldn't mind building as well. the chassis is based off a JBS Racing 69 Camaro chassis. i was able to get detailed photos for reference. it has a live Tamiya rc truck axle with four link suspention with a panhard. the diff is open so its drivable doing things other than going straight. i can throw on the smaller rubber tires in the realistic photos to get it to slide around. the drag tires on it are actually foam drag tires for rc cars. i plan on getting some better videos tommorrow if the weathers nice. i will post some more pics in a little. i have to go through them and get the best ones cause i have a butt load. thanks for all the kind words i really appreciate it and i thought you all would enjoy it. thanks.

Looks good but it torques over in the wrong direction. The left front wheel needs to come off the ground not the right front
Re: Custom 1/8 Scale Iroc RC Drag Car

Re: Custom 1/8 Scale Iroc RC Drag Car
Custom Works makes a Iroc-Z body for 1/10th scales, obviously won't fit a 1/8th or 1/4 scale. I'm big into RC's as well, got quite a few listed in my signature.
Here is the Iroc-Z body http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...6&I=LXNTA5&P=K

Re: Custom 1/8 Scale Iroc RC Drag Car
Your scoop is actually too small and too far forward. A normal drag car like that has the scoop going right back to the windshield because the engine is pushed back so far. The front of the engine is normally inline with the front axle. Your scoop angles down too much at the rear.
This is a more modern look. The scoop is attached to the engine and the hoop just comes right off.

Although not as high but this is more the look I'm going to try on my own car.

Great lookin RC! That thing is awsome!
I love how in some of the pics of it on the table, the blinds in the background totally looks like a roll up garage door. haha.
Good luck finishing it up! Keep us posted with more pics!

Re: Custom 1/8 Scale Iroc RC Drag Car
thanks guys. i really appreciate the positive feedback on the project. i originally paid $250 for the grey car but all that remains from it are the wheels and body. i prolly have a good $500 in it now not including stuff i had laying around which would have bumped it to at least the $650 mark. it'll be work it in the end plus i have gotten countless hours of amusement from working on it. now that the holidays are over i will be getting back to work on it. right now i am in the process of getting the paint squared away cause the weather is fixing to be too cold. i and going to be adding so crazy features soon including a removable front clip, lights, interior, and of course the engine. stay tuned and thanks again.
Re: Custom 1/8 Scale Iroc RC Drag Car
well i got a little done now that im back from the holidays. sculpted new valve covers, and a intake manifold. i also realized i didn't really like the orange so i got some different paint. i am going back with the original color. i alwayzed loved the gunmetal color. i will paint the car tommorrow. tell me what ya'll think. thanks guys!

Re: Custom 1/8 Scale Iroc RC Drag Car
it will be sandblasted and powdercoated once im done with the construction. i still have quite a bit left to do to the chassis including seat cage, seat mounts, firewall, motor mounts, and a few other misallaneous brackets. thanks Junior Member
