I'm looking to lighten a thirdgen up to make it into a drag car. Can I remove the inner fender wells without removing anything else that I need? Or is there a bunch of other stuff that's attached to them that I need?

thanks

Re: Inner Fender Well Removal Question...
If you want to remove the front you will need a brace of some sort to hold the sturts. They mount to the inner fenders. It's easier to just keep them, and can be lighter in the long run. They aren't that heavy anyway.

Ive seen this done before. Just cant remember who did it. They used tubular Steel bent into shape that went across for the strut mounts.

Re: Inner Fender Well Removal Question...
Because the front struts require the inner fenders as part of the suspension, you would need to do some major fabrication like in the above pictures. Adding the tubing would weigh more than the sheet metal of the inner fenders.

A third gen isn't like a first or second gen where the inner fenders can be easily unbolted and removed.

Re: Inner Fender Well Removal Question...
The one reason I could see doing something like
that would be to (Possibly) being able to run some
larger custom made headers.
And tightening up the front subframe into the cage.

Re: Inner Fender Well Removal Question...
If you get to that point where you need headers that big, you might as well have a tube chassis car.

My BBC has 2-1/4" primary tubes and 4" collectors. They just barely fit between the engine and the frame rail but they do fit.
