Has anyone tried this in real life yet? I really want to try something like this with an 89 camaro that had a small engine fire. its a v6 and just about on its last leg so no worries about ruining a good third gen, it would just go to the junkyard otherwise. It seems fesible and would be perfect for an autobody man like me, but its hard for me to start on the car or do a mock up because i'm deployed overseas. I barely have a picture of my blue 88 because I sprayed the clear the day I had to leave. So any help, suggestions, smarta$$ comments, or detailed descriptions/drawings are very welcome. There are companies out there that will mold you the covers if you have a template. You could build the template by cutting up the origanl bumper covers and gluing or riviting them back together. Or make a reverse mold out of fiberglass once you have the shape where you want it. Time consuming and probably expensive but it would look cool. G

 

Thats a good idea, G. thanks. I also think the fenders would need to be trimmed and maybe shortened in height. The hood might need to be messed with but I plan on using an aluminum hood so I can cut it at will. Also, I assume the bumper impact crushing crap would have to be moved and maybe the radiator support might need to be adjusted.

But like I said I can really get my hands on a Camaro over here. I have only seen one Camaro in Kosovo and its has be messed with a lot. ie put together with assorted parts, bad paint, THOSE SIDE-VIEW MIRRORS, and a strange exhaust. I might just try and send it home to sort it all out. But this doesnt help me with my ideas.

If you read the origanal post it says that was a photo shop. and just look at the shadow on the front of the car pretty obvious. anyhow that is a pic of a trans am 91-92. There is definatly room in the front to shorten these cars but I don't think there is anyway you could get it that short. Need a place for the radiator and bumper. well good luck with you're project and I hope to see some pics.

Oh and thouse side view mirrors were standred on pontiacs for sure over seas. and that is the first time Ive seen a camaro with tailights for the wider plate looks prety cool. and the mirrors go for quit a bit over hear because they only came on a very small number of cars and always break. So for that perfect resto they are hard to find.

 

I really, really like the rear of the car with the bumper gone. I'm going to have to look into doing that.

Call me a purist, but I don't like any of it. I like the lines of the cars as they were designed by the general. It makes me think of the el camino camaro noses, which look overly blunt and just too tall in my opinion. But, if you're going to go through with it, this may be worth looking into for you.

 

I think that in order to match that bumper cover so far up on the fender of the camaro that the fender would need to be sectioned or instead a triangle. the fender support and subframe might need to be adjusted too. that sounds like a lot tho. what do you think?

 

too much work for something that won't make you go faster don't ya think? just my input though.

 

I have messed around with the wheelbase on these cars with the Adobe and although it would be really hard to do on a rear car it would look pretty cool to stretch out the front a little and bring up the rear

I'm going to have to say that I too am a purist like 90firebird said. I really do prefer the body lines of the cars the way the General made them. However, I like the idea that 88camaroluvr is kicking around here, and would really like to see the process and finished project. And as a body man he should have a much better chance at getting it right than a gearhead like me. Go for it man, just be sure to show us all LOTS of pictures.

 

 

I agree about the pics. Anyone can show a side view of a modified car but the design of the front and rear lights, hood and grille will really tell the tale. Most of the aftermarket bumpers and custom designs I see make the bumpers longer not shorter.

 

I would really like to keep the front stock appearing. But again I didnt do the picture and dont do photoshop and probably cant. Maybe somebody can help make one.

 

I think it would look pretty cool done to a Bird but not a Camaro. Later.
