Re: My Fabrication and Build...
Time for a little update. I got the flywheel/clutch installed and matted the two together for the final time. Started getting the Cross member TQ arm mount built and I have 90% of the 4" down pipe and boom tube exhaust tacked together. Its starting to take shape im off on vacation for the next two weeks, when I get back its getting the radiator and intercooler mounted and start working on the engine wiring harness and maybe fuel system.

Work is progressing quite well!!! Some very, very nice fabrication going into the build! Takes more then just "bolt ons" to build a really first rate Hot Rod, congrats on the most excellent craftsmanship!

Re: My Fabrication and Build...
Thanks guys! as for updates I just got back from vacation so ill be getting back to work on it. Im going to start getting the body wiring laid out and finish up the welding on the down pipe.
I did come to some kind of mental acceptance that Im really not happy with the way the A2A intercooler is setup. having it in front of the radiator at the angles it has to be at is really going to cause me more headaches sicne ive got real doubts that ill see enough airflow though the intercooler... So Im pretty much decided to go A2W with the intercooler flat mounted behind the radiator with a 5 gallon water tank in the back..... So itll take me a little more time to source the parts and get the mount fabbed up but in the long run its the best option.

Re: My Fabrication and Build...
Well I got the A2W intercooler mounted and have mocked up the charge piping. Its starting to look like a complete engine bay! I also got the radiator hoses made and installed... $300 bucks for radiator hoses is retarded ... but it looks good and should work like a champ.
I also took the entire LT1 wiring harness apart and pulled out all the BS that I didnt want/need. stuff like transmission sensors, rear O2, fan and fuel pump wiring, oil pressure sensor etc... Then took it all and added the LS1 PCM ends along with coil, cam and crank sensor plugs I also relocated the MAP sensor and coil connections to the interior and relocated the IAT sensor up through the frame rails to where Ill mount the sensor in the charge piping.

hahaha your not the only one! One of my friends wants to marry it and another wants to have sex with it! you might have to get in line lol
Heres just a little update. Ive been SLOWLY and methodically pulling all new wires and laying out the main body harness. Right now I have ALL the wires that run to the front (horn, lights, fans, IAT, boost contor solenoid) routed in the passenger frame rail. I have it sleaved in a rubber coolant hose so no chance of chaffing. Ill get some pics of that when I get home tonight.
I also have ALL the charge piping welding up and the intercooler 100% mounted. Im jsut waiting on my flange for my BOV to get here so I can weld that on. once thats on and I relocated the 3/8 npt IAT bung the charge piping will be 100% The boost blow out prevention struts for the silicone TB connection are actually spoiler stuts for a asphalt late model

Re: My Fabrication and Build...
Thanks guys! Im trying really really hard to keep it super clean and not rush it. Ive probably got about 15K, def no more than 20K and that includes buying the car for 2K 10 years ago haha I have a solid 5-6K worth of stuff to buy for it but ALL of the work is dont by myself so I dont have to pay labor I dont even want to think about the time I have into it. lol
ive been working toward a goal of 650-700hp at 20-22PSI on pump gas and a solid 800hp at 25-28psi on E85. I think the goals are very realistic, Im staying 6speed for the time being but i plan on having a TH400 with a trans brake setup up for a quick change so one weekend Ill got road racing and the next ill hit the strip. but thats down the road a ways
The turnbuckles are from a local asphalt racing supplier. they are made for holding the rear wings and front splitters.

Re: My Fabrication and Build...
Ya like TT said its all sloped downhill and its more vertical right at the turbo so it should drain away nicely. If I have any drain problems ill just add a scavenging pump.
Im working on my battery kill switch setup now and I think i have it all figured out enough to actual get the pieces machined Heres a couple screen shots of it and the tank im having Donny at dads tanks fab up for me. I would build the tank myself but for his prices and the quality of the welds i jsut cant justify it.
also got the driver side travel limiter finished.

That battery disconnect is awesome! My battery is in the trunk as well and if I ever have to put a disconnect in I hated the idea of drilling through the taillight. I may have to steel your idea or see how much you would want for one if I ever need to

150 for everything to need including the switch. You would have to do some slight modification to the brackets that weld to trunk area

Re: My Fabrication and Build...
Got my water tank from DADS over the weekend and all I gotta say is DAMN! I sent him the dimensions I wanted and what pump im gonna be running and he knocked it outa the park! If I could weld like that I would be in heaven! If you are in need of ANY aluminum tank work hes super cheap and does amazing work.

Re: My Fabrication and Build...
Time for an update. Ive got the K-frame 95% complete weighs in at 24.6lbs. I still want to add a hand full of gussets but for the most part its complete. I got the hot side wrapped, I still have to wrap the down pipe but thats no big deal. I got the Line lock and Proportioning valve mounted along with reinstalling the booster/master and clutch master/slave. Also got a 3/8" bung welded into the charge piping for my IAT sensor and routed all the fuel lines... I was hoping to get all the odds and ends done by the weekend to get it fired up btu I had to put a few parts on hold since I found a pretty good deal on a coil over setup so I had to scoop that up.

Re: My Fabrication and Build...
looks great man! very impressed. I love the fuel tank btw... how much did it cost to weld that up for u? I want a overflow tank and perhaps some valve covers... idk if DADS would do that?
Couple of questions tho... the intake piping from the pass side to the TB... is that mounted/fixed at the battery tray area (on pass side) just thinking that the engine should rotated about 1/2" or so under throttle which could pull on that area.
Also how did u fab up the Kmember? create a JIG from the stocker and work from there? and what type of tubing is it? moly? Since u seem to be about looks, i would of sprung for some TIG welding on the Kmember since the welds look kinda bulky.
Also could u come up with something like a Piston shifter handle? I love the little piston and think thats sick, i would love a piston on my B&M megashifter... hell id love a pistol grip lol but the piston is much cooler

Damn, those tanks DADS makes are nice! And really well priced too....
If he made custom fabricated valve covers, I'd be all over a set. No one makes them for the motor I'm building, lol. But from what I saw on the website, they don't do them
Heh, and I guess you're right, a 150# spring might be a bit light for your car Looks great though, I want to see this finished. Can't believe I missed this build earlier

what are you building that no one ha valve covers for then???
As for the original post, I'm loving it. Awesome fab work. Love the scooters valve covers.
Did you build that crossmember yourself?

There are some valve covers out there, but they're cheap crap. I'm not gonna spend money on cheap crap, I'd rather powdercoat the stock ones gold and black to match everything else

Thanks man! the valve covers are PIMP and im really glad I splurged on them. Yup I did the crossmember myself. I built a Jig out of some scrap roll cage pieces I had lying around and then started srawing it up in autocad. Sadly the cad file was lost when my office comp took a dump and I didnt back up my local drive....

The K-member came out superb, Tony!! Excellent work! Fit, finish, and detail is what it's all about and IMO you get an A+ in each catagory. Too bad you don't live a bit closer...I've had the same guy doing my tig welds since back in the sprint car days (where I thoroughly "tested" his welds)---he's a geezer like me and it'd be great to hook you up with him for some OJT!!!! My Camaro keeps sliding down the priority list, about 3 customer projects ahead of it now, hopefully it can find it's way to the chassis table next spring....
Keep up the excellent work and the high standards!

Re: My Fabrication and Build...
ahhhh i forgot about the motor plate! yup that would stop her from twisting lol. Where did u get the driver side limiter from? and why u running a limiter if you have the motor plate?
Im looking for a set of valve covers for my 460 ford (now a 521 monster)swap into my bird. I can get a set for 215$ from canton but there not that nice. Ive contacted a guy in austrailia and he wants 500$ plus shipping... but they are sooooo frigin nice! Ill look on DADS site and see what he has to offer.
What tubing thickness did u use for the Kmember? I gotcha... still tho the car is so pretty u should def think about getting some moly tubing and having a Go at it, IMO moly should and ONLY should be Tig welded, i dnt think u can MIG moly? But its a pain in the A$$... so i understand. Would u be willing to make Kmembers? i would take one lol... my BBF is a fat lil piglet, more room for custom headers would be nice lol.

Re: My Fabrication and Build...
I looked on DADS site, I want a pair of valve covers fabricated too!
If I remember right, on the site they said they do ALL their stuff our of .100" aluminum. Which is probably about right for valve covers, except the base/gasket rail so I dunno. I'm all over a pair if they'll actually do them

Re: My Fabrication and Build...
.090- .100" aluminum is what ive seen used on fabricated valve covers. .100" is pretty normal, the gasket rail should be a machined piece of billet aluminum (if its a good pair of valve covers) billet will give the gasket a much more stable mounting/sealing surface against the head.
Well chris at DADs got back to me... the valve covers would cost me something like 500$ still and i would have to send him a head to design the covers...

LOL i wouldnt even care... still that would be sooo sick. Ask him how much for a piston shifter handle (has to have a slight angle in it for the palm facing upwards towards the front of the car) with the threads for a B&M mega shifter? if its not too insane i would see about it, not to mention i might have potential buyers perhaps one for a munci 4 speed manual?

Maybe it'd be a lot less if you had a local shop machine the rails, and just shipped them, so DADS didn't have to do that? Then you shouldn't need to send them a head either
