Re: My Fabrication and Build...

if the alt and other pullies are on the motor plate thing.. does tht mean its not connected to the engine at all? im new to any of this so idk if im talking out of my ***.. but if thats the case wouldnt the motor shake and everything else wouldnt which would cause more strain on the belt considering everything isnt shaking together?

Think of the engine and chassis now as one piece. The engine can not move at all since its mounted to a solid plate which is mounted solid to the chassis. there is no "motor shake" with respect to the chassis.

No not anymore than it was already taking before. the engine was always connected to the chassis, It was just through rubber or poly motor mounts. plus if you look at the pics you can see Ive done plenty of reinforcing

1) That was two 50' rolls of 2" wide wrap
2) That color is the only option with this type of wrap. its call Titanium exhaust wrap and its from DEI. heres a link http://www.amazon.com/010127-Titaniu.../dp/B002R4U72I
3) I did not coat the wrap with anything cause I didnt want it to fade or change over time.
4) The manifolds are mild steel that I painted with some BBQ paint before I covered them.

Re: My Fabrication and Build...

Maybe it has something to do with water pump clearance, but it kinda looks like there would be room to flip that intercooler over so the big tubes point upward. That looks like it could cut out a good 2 feet of intake tubing if not 3. Either way, can't wait to see it run!

Its an optical illusion really... I tried it that way and it was way to tight and would require sharp bends. Ill take a little longer section with longer sweeps than one thats short with sharp bends. Notice how just to 90 into the TB im over the side of the radiator....

Re: My Fabrication and Build...

Awesome build! Gives me some inspiration for my upcoming Turbo build. I like how you canted the radiator for more room.

What brand of intercooler are you using? Aren't you worried about heat soak the intercooler with heat from the rad?

...now I'm seeing the overall need for the heat extractor hood. I have similar plans for my '91. The ultimate goal for me is a single turbo LS1/T56 setup. After driving boosted cars for a few years now, I don't think anything compares to the feeling when the turbo spools up.

Just out of curiosity, what is your plan for directing airflow over the radiator in that configuration? Still going to use an airdam or is air directed some other way?

Thats the intercooler im using. Im not worried about "heat soaK" Theres a heat exchanger that goes in front of the radiator aswell as a tank I can add ice to in the back.

The air is directed Through the camaro grill which will be shrouded to make sure air takes the path through the radiator. An air dam will go on If I have a problem creating negative pressure behind the radiator and temps rise... Im hoping the heat extractor hood will get rid of all the under hood pressure and actual help create negative pressure....

Boost rules! Good news, tonight spent some time testing some things and buttoning up some loose ends. HP tuners connected to the PCM on the first try! Ill be loading a new tune tomorrow and with any luck have a vid clip of it firing for the first time!

Re: My Fabrication and Build...

looks good! You make me want to build my own Kmember sooo badly! Now i need the room, Im about to start making headers for my 521cuin BBF swap. headers will consist of 2" aluminized primaries and 3.5" collectors.

If you dont mind i have a few questions about the DIE titanium header wrap. I got 2 rolls of the 50'x2". I got them for 37$ each i also got 5 packs of 25 stainless tie wraps at 12" long for about 5$ each pack . So im going to start making my headers, any words of wisdom? And also wrapping the headers... did u start from the collector and work you way to the flange? or the opposite? and did you use SS wraps on the primaries by the flange at the start of the wrap or only at the end of the wrap? Im not going to coat mine either bc they dont make clear coatings and i love the look of the wrap.

Amazing build. Top notch work for sure. I'm pretty biased when it comes to twin turbos vs single turbos. My thoughts are: V motors get twins and I motors get a single. I guess I like symmetry :P haha but it comes down to personal opinion and the rest of your build is flawless so I'll let it pass.

I'm not too far from you. About an hour and a half south in Manchester. Nice to see such a quality build around here.

Im usually a stickler for symmetry BUT twins cost double and wouldnt have helped make any more power than what I can get outa this motor setup. the 88 will be more than the lil 355 can handle. the only benifit to twins performance wise was spool time but that was never a big concern for me. The next build I would like to do will probably be twins but thats a long way down the road....

Tonight im hoping to have the front suspension back under it! itll be the first time in two year that it actually sat on 4 tires lol.

List of things left to do.
Mount heat exchanger and route tubing to water thank.
Wire dash gauges and lights.
Weld in window nets, paint back half of the cage and install interior.
Weld up front TQ arm mount, and drive shaft safety loop. intall DS.
Route all hardlines for brakes.

Re: My Fabrication and Build...

Ive been working on it here and there. The suspension is back under it, Brake lines have been finished, mounted the heat exchanger for the A2W setup. I picked up a nice set of Corbeau FX-1 seats and started molding the A-pillar panels so I can finish mounting the gauges. Ive got the Wideband, fuel pressure, boost and shift light in the pillar and water temp, oil temp and oil pressure in the TA dash vent holes. I also picked up a Cervini Cowl hood and Dzus rails that need to get mounted...

I ran into a slight issue with the belt alignment on the alternator so I need to straighten that out. I also had a water leak on one of my water pump welds that I had to fix. Its really about a solid 2 days of work away from making a maden voyage but ive been slammed with other cars and work at the office hasnt let up...

Ill have to get some more pics but here are a few of the Apillar that will be getting wrapped in leather later next week.

Re: My Fabrication and Build...

Just a little update, I have a Mcloed belhousing on the way since there was no way in hell I would shoot for 700-800 hp without any feet protection. That should be here by the weekend so sunday or early next week ill get that in and then there is NOTHING keeping it from hitting the dyno. Im really hoping for 800hp and Im planning to throw whatever I have to at it to get there. Im running VP113 so I will be able to lean on it pretty hard. heres a few updated fully running engine bay pictures.

Quick Idle vid.

Im working on getting the 4th gen door panels and center console mounted this week. Ive been slacking on ordering the racecraft hood rails so I need to get on that and I need to order another set of front springs.... theres a ton of other small little things like painting the rest of the cage, K-frame and intercooler mount aswell as figuring out how to manually energize the acura alternator.... and the list goes on lol itll never be "done"

looks good man. Hope you hit your mark!

Can i ask what kind of hose your using on the rad or intercooler? It looks like the type of hose I see at homedepot (clear with support braid). And ive alse seen that hose in some cars in carcraft or one of those mags. I would love to use it as it looks much cooler than regular black hose. where did you get it from?

Im using braided stainless lines for my radiator since it sees pressure and high temp but the lines feeding the intercooler and heat exchanger that run back to the water tank are from ace hardware and fit perfectly onto the hose end style AN fitting from aeroquip. Its cheap and alot lighter than braided hose.

Re: My Fabrication and Build...

ahhh thats awsome. I like the look! U used the hose as a push in style?

What kind of temps/pressures will the intercooler see? Just want an idea of what the hose is capable of. Do you think the hose would work for a trans cooler or something? I was thinking of using instead of the fuel pressure hose thats on my overflow tank, PCV system and vacuum for my brakes perhaps.

Can you get some better pics of the hose and how you connected them?

Re: My Fabrication and Build...

Hey man, i just picked up some of the braided hose from homedepot. Im using it on my overflow tank and i was thinking of using it on my powersteering return line and my brake booster vacuum line. Home depot said it can handle 225psi at 70*F i believe. My engine bay gets pretty hot and i dont want the hoses to burst or collapse. Right now i have 3/8" fuel hose for my brake booster and thermoid power steering return hose on my power steering. Could be cool to see the fluid moving tho.

What do you think about the hose and the engine bay heat? My hood gets to about 160*F on the outside on a hot summer day. I have so much motor and not alot of room so the engine bay just heat soaks like a motha!

Re: My Fabrication and Build...

Im really not sure how well itll hold up to heat. I had mine on the dyno and didnt have any trouble outa the water system. Now the turbo on the other hand.... uuggghh The story on the PT88 was I got it on trade from a moderator on LS1tech. I checked it out pretty good when I got it and didnt notice any end play issues that would warrent a full rebuild. Well I get the car on the dyno a couple weeks ago and make a couple pulls on low boost and after I shut the engine down on one of the passes I heard a ting ting sound like the impeller blades where hitting the cover!! turns out the thrust bearing gave out on top of having the comp cover a little loose and it ate up my cover and the impeller wheel... So Im looking for a new turbo now. Im really leaning toward a billet wheel 76mm, itll definetely get me to my 800hp goal but itll spool a **** ton faster that the old PT. On a side note it made 548hp on 7lbs (10.8:1AFR and only 12 degrees of timing! Heres a quick vid.

Re: My Fabrication and Build...

Whoa killer! Interior isnt done yet and those GTO wheels are NOT staying, they were just what I had sitting around so I could get the drivetrain sorted on the dyno. itll still be months before Im ready to show off the interior but I do have to say its looking AWESOME! I got both TA door panels mounted and the Driver side A piller molded. once I finish the pass side A piller they both plus the door panels are getting some leather wrapping. With the turbo taking a dump its gonna push the other things back... Ill keep updating this thread as I progress. I think I have the record for the longest build with the least amount of progress! haha.

I was thinking the same thing as Yahtzee so I went through some pictures. I found it in the pics I took from G13. Amazing work.

I take it Dave flaked on ya with the heat extractor? He never did pay me the month's worth of wages he owed me. That guy (and his wife ie. partner in crime) was just total scumbags. Tells lies to everyone just to make himself look great; even when there is proof to the contrary. Oh Karma, she's just a waitin'...

Ya its a loss... It would have been a killer product but ohwell. the Cervini hood is pimp and with a tall duckbill on the back itll be a hot setup.

On and update, now Im ditching the busted PT88 and going back down to a 76. Im getting the Billet wheel Prescision 7675 which should make 800 but spool alot quicker than the 88. itll be a couple months before that happens tho... In the mean time Im going to finish the interior and probably start on the body work getting it prepped for paint.
