donno if this is a lockable topic, but whats everyones favorite fabrication tool?
mine is my trusty plasma cutter. welder is fun too.

wish i could get a mill or a cnc machine, but those are pipe dreams.

 

I love welding, for now its my cheap-*** MIG welder.
Love to buy a TIG welder soon...and a plasmacutter...or a cuttingtorch...

 

my best tool is my bag and some papers LOL

I love my air compressor with the cut off tool works great 2nd is the MIG

pb blaster, a few squirts of that and any thing will come loose.

 

BFH.....It's the most important tool in my box. There's always a need for it when you're working on a 20+/- yr old car.

I also have them in other sizes...SFH, MFH, & XLFM.But the BFH is the most commonly used one.

 

 

I remember in front of the best painter and by far the best mechanic I have ever met I called the die grinder a tie grinder

I guess it was kind of true

if you go down this road of fab you might as well grind off your tie

 

A good running PC and thirdgen.org ...... every question Ive had has been answered or partially answered on these boards. After that mig and socket set.

 

My set of ratchet wrenches and my LED Safety glasses. They may look silly but they are comfortable and I have bright light wherever I point my head.

 

Visegrips. It's the Swiss Army Knife of tools. Its pliers, clamp, wrench, stubborn bolt remover, sheet metal bender, hammer (if you have a large enough pair), wire crimper, etc. If I really wanted to, I could probably replace half the hand tools I own with a set of various sizes of visegrips.

at work my fav tool is my heavy duty IR air hammer. love that thing, got a siezed bolt? reverse clutch fan? tight bolt in a tight spot, air hammer that bitch loose and finger it out! wheel locks but no key? even billy mayes would agree, kaboom baby!

that little mini ratchet, its like a thumb ratchet. that thing gets to the tightest spots. that and my 3 ft long extension

 

i almost fell out of my chair im laughing so hard

 

the tool between my legs does go as #1 on my list. sure comes in handy

2nd favorite has gotta be my 3/8 dr. craftsman ratchet and sockets.

 

When I saw this thread my first though was my Sluggo(BFH). Then I started reading the post and remembered all those other tools that I use all the time. The PB Blaster for one has saved my but more than once, and I cant even begin to tell how many pairs of ViceGrips I have. That and Crecent wrenches.

Funny though, most of the tools people name are the ones that come in when something goes drastically wrong.

YUP!! I second that!

w/1 exception,my welder first and my thorsen screwdriver set 2nd. and my BFH is next to that by a slim line.

Duct tape can't even be suggested because EVERYONE! does it at some point and also has a roll handy.

 

el cheapo lincoln mig welder, then probably the milwaukee port-a-band bandsaw, then probably my klein crimpers....i could go on for days!

 

latley im thinkin i wanna change mine to sun block or welding sleeves. damn mig welder is givin me some killer sunburns.

i like those knipex pliers too, those suckers grab like hell!

You're absolutely right about that! That's why I didn't mention it.

Working on my Camaro last night, I realized my second fav tool is my Dremel. I use it just about every time I'm working on the car.

 

Another favorite is neon orange paint. Just a quick coat on all of your hand tools and one has no problem finding them after being hurled in frustration at shrubs, neighbors yard, into the driveway at night, and so on.

 

just duct tape the tools to your hands, no need to paint them.

 

20 pound sledge. If that dosen't fix it, you can break it, and ease your frustration.

 

My Dewalt 4.5" angle grinder is on the top of my list. Followed by the welder. Then the impact guns and air ratchets.

 

Vise grips are the only reason I finished changing my shocks. Aside from that, this little magnet I have on the end of a foot long piece of solid core wire. It's saved many a nut and bolt from many a places, and also handy at picking up excess metal shavings from drilling when theres no shopvac handy.

You, sir, have read my mind!!!! It seems every time something has to come off my car I am walking around my front yard in search of a ratchet or socket. I even had to borrow my friends metal detector one time because I threw the only socket that I had in that size.

3 1/2lb mini-sledge named "Lil Sweetie" - something not going right? A few whacks and all is well
Saw-zall - cuts everything and I mean everything

 

My dad's old wrench he left when he died. We worked on many a car with that tool.

 

My uncle calls me "Captain Crecent Wrench" because i use it for everything

Thought about it, my favorite tool is one that can be replaced for free if it breaks.

 

my favorite tool? ah ye olde Pry bar, followed by BFH, followed closely by my horrible language when the first and second dont work

Although i havent really got to use them on this car yet..only picked up the car a couple months ago..but it wont be long before parts are made.
