switch panel mount
i got a longacre start switch panel from ebay and couldnt figure out where to put it then my cousin and i just thought of this. we mounted it in the the ash tray location. it fits perfectly just needed to cut out some plastic. i like it. what does everyone else think about it?
my original plan was to put it in the center console but i didnt really have a good way to mount it without spending any money.

Re: switch panel mount
I think it would fit right in if you would blend it in with dark paint.
you can't cut up the panel instead?

Re: switch panel mount
it does stick out quite a bit, maybe if you had some more color matching parts in the interior it wouldn't be quite as bad...

Re: switch panel mount
im doing the wiring on it tomorrow. the first switch on the left is ignition power, then the start button, fuel pump, and cooling fans on the right. i would paint the radio trim but it is broken, i have to fix it first... not very high on my to-do list lol

Re: switch panel mount
yeah...I would suggest wiring up "everything" to work from the switch panel. Honestly, IMHO, I don't think there is a point to wire up a push button ignition and still have to put the key in. The reason I would put a push button is to get rid of the key in the first place so I think it would be a waste of time to put the key in, turn the ignition, then press a button... Something I would like to do in the future is get one of those Flaming River proximity cards that turns on the ignition when you're near (its a card that you can leave in your wallet or key chain) so all you have to do is push the button to start and go...

Re: switch panel mount
yeah, but if you're butting the key in, why not just continue and turn the crank? When I get another car, I'm going to put the push button start on it but I'll figure out a way to dispose of the key completely. I'll probably drop the steering column to see what needs to be done to leave the steering loose and shifter aswell...

Re: switch panel mount
it takes .8 seconds to put the key in and turn it. im not worried about losing that kind of time.. not quite that lazy... i want the start button because i think its cool.

Re: switch panel mount
I know what you mean (thats why I got remote start) but I'd like to get a whole different ignition start system that what came in these cars. What I'd love to do is completely disassemble the key ignition plate/drum/etc (I forgot what its called) where key goes in, and leave an empty hole there in the steering column, and then add the "Engine On" button in that hole. I haven't looked heavily into it yet since I don't have a spare car I can use as my mule. Like I said, the only thing I can think of is using the proximity card or that kind of system. So I don't even have to flip any switches. As I approach the car, all the little bells and whistles turn on (including fuel pump) so all I have to do is get in and push "Engine Start" button and go... Good luck on your install, let us know how it turns out...

Re: switch panel mount
I don't think functionality was a real big factor.. you just wanted to look like a race car
Looks good man, but seriously why? Also just looks a little out of place to me.. But hey to each his own.
