this hood really is amazing, if you or a major company ever manufacture these i would be in line for my camaro, i would make it a lift off so i could just drill holes for the pins on my car and swap hoods anytime i wanted

It sorta already exists for Camaros, from a couple of places. Just without the extractor in the middle.

 

right right, i just want the fully functional pre built heat extractor cowl hood lol, i can do body work, but im not good with a welder.....yet lol, ive seen heat extractor hoods on camaros(or a camaro thirdgen) but ive never seen them sold, and never thought of asking a major company to make me one

 

You could get a Jongbloed/Sunoco hood, which is fiberglass, and mod in the center heat extractor into it.

 

i might have to do that when i get more cash, i just bought a Cervini cowl, which looks awesome by itself and i dont want to cut it up lol, plus the jongbloed/sunoco hood looks alot better if you want to add to it because its more of a smooth look

Nope, no paint yet. I've tinkered with sanding it here and there but it's really been put on the back burner in favor of other projects....and work. I've been working 7 -10's lately and will be for the duration of the summer so I have no idea when I'll get to get at it. When I get home from working in the heat all day all I really feel like doing is sitting in the A/C and hanging out with my wife and daughter. I'll get it painted one of these days, or at least in a solid coat of primer. Before it gets painted the whole car is going to get a ton of "top secret" body mods and it will all be painted at one time.

At least you have the option o. NOBODY makes a Jongbloed/Sunoco for Firebirds, despite their claims they will or are working on it.

I find it interesting that this type of hood with the radiator exhaust outlet is referred to as a "Japanese type/style" hood. The first such hood that I ever saw was built by Ron Fournier for a wide body IMSA Mustang in the late 70's or early 80's, and I'm sure that it wasn't a completely new idea then. Check out the "Sheet Metal Fabricator's Handbook" for pictures of the Mustang hood.

They just call it that because everyone has seen that Carbon Fiber hood from Japan and lots of folks want one. Of course designs like that have been around for 40 years.

Sorry guys and gals...no updates on the hood. There's WAY too many things going on in my life right now to put the finishing touches on it. Hopefully one day soon in the future I can make time for it. It's still on my 89 out in the driveway though.

The tractor paint on the 91 is still looking great, although I haven't driven it in about a month because it developed a massive oil leak around the rear of the driver side head. I haven't had a chance to hunt it down and fix it yet...maybe this weekend I'll get around to fixing that. I updated the paint thread no too terribly long ago I think...check the link in my sig.

Well guys and gals, the hood is SOLD!!!! It went to a good home though. Another member on here has it now on his car. We put it on yesterday. I'm not going to say who it is, but rest assured it WILL be making another appearance one of these days. I must say that it really meshes well with the car that it is on now, much more so than when it was on my base 89 bird. It looks absolutely WICKED now!

Those are REAL PICS taken with a CAMERA, not Photoshopped. Showing every step of his build, Did he ever finish & paint it? No.

But there are REAL pics, showing it being built. I know, because I LOOKED at Page 1, before I ever said anything the first time. Go look. You'll see the REAL pics of it being built.

For the record. I DID BUILD THE HOOD!!!!!!!!! It was about 90% complete when it was taken off of my 89 Firebird on Saturday. The only thing left to do to it was a little filler and sanding work where I had to massage it with a hammer. Then, of course, paint. I just have WAY too many projects going on and this one was at the bottom of the list so I never got around to completing it 100%. I decided to sell it to another member that has the time and the patience to finish it out completely.

The pics all on the first page were pics that were either taken by me or my wife at my house in my gravel driveway where I even painted my 91 with near flawless results. I didn't photoshop ANY pics because to be honest, I have no idea how to do it. I'm not too computer savvy...I'm a metal worker by trade...it's what I do, it's what brings in a paycheck every week.

So, for completed pics here is what you get. The hood is fully welded up, re-braced underneath, somewhat primed, and mostly sanded and smoothed out. It does however exist, and is now at home on another member's car.









There are several members here on TGO that are members of my local thirdgen club that have laid their hands on this hood and have seen it in person. Some got to see it in person through some of the build.

So, let me say again...IT DOES EXIST!!!! I BUILT IT!!!!

Google pics, huh? Wow! I must be really really good at photoshop then....because my 91 is in the background of the pics. Oh, and the hood itself was the original hood from my 91. If you look at the first pics in the thread you can actually see that it was being built on my 91 before I painted it.
