Re: fuel flush

Run the car? Let it plug up the filter, and change the filter a few times.
Q-jet filters are $1.88 each, i'm not sure what kind of filter you have there?

Re: fuel flush

that's a horrible idea there sonix. wow.

hook a garden hose up to the tank and shove it in the fill port where you'd pump gas and let it run for a while. It'll flush everything out the sump. Then blow compressed air into the tank until it drains out and hook your lines up and fill with gas.

Re: fuel flush

How did you weld a sump onto the tank with it still having remnants of gas in it?

+1 on the garden hose. There shouldnt be much in there. A few specks of rust and a few grains of dirt maybe

Re: fuel flush

ok ill do the garden hose. no i drained the gas and washed the inside out with simple green the inside was still in great condition im just worried about some of the spatter that may have gotten in the tank while welding and whatnot. thanks alot i appreciate it...the worst thing about that idea is it is about 20 degrees here so i wont be able to do that anytime time soon. thanks again for the help fellas

I suppose you can do it anyway you like, my suggestion was because I had no idea what contaminants he was trying to remove (ie, sludge, rust, scale, welding slag, etc etc). I am uncomfortable using water due to internal baffles. I am never sure if you can easily get all the water back out? Plus due to the configuration of the tank (ie filler neck) it's hard to get an air gun in there far enough to dry it out reliably. Water will sink to the bottom of the tank (below gasoline) and will be pumped directly through a fuel filter into your engine. I would rather have some chunks of dirt/dust etc go through my fuel pump and into my filter, than water. But as I mentioned, I had no idea what contaminants were expected, what pump style is used, and what filtration medium is used.
I originally was going to recommend flushing it out with a gallon of solvent (varsol, paint thinner, etc) since it will burn with your gasoline, or more likely, flash off and dry before you're done.

Acetone works too and might be easier to find in larger quantites.
