I used to throw these out.. Now they are worth a fortune!

Anyhow, a mid 80s/early 90s S10 will have the same box. Check the local junkyard.

Makes it a lot easier to tighten #8 header tube.

Yeah they are just heat only boxes. S10 and fbody shared a few things, such as rear end gears, heater box, blower motor, I think steering column is similar, front brakes.

Thanks. Tony.

Re: deleting AC keeping heat...

I got one of these for roughly 100$ from thirdgenranch awhile back... Installed it (was newly painted and i think new blower motor).. WOrks like a charm but only has 3 levels instead of the 4 levels i had with the AC version... Still good, not like you need heat blasting at level 4 anyways lol.. REALLY cleans up engine bay, less weight, and makes it easier to work on passenger side motor!

Re: deleting AC keeping heat...

Hey guys, is there a detailed drawing or schematic of that box somewhere? I was thinking I could just make one out of sheetmetal or something. I always wanted to do that mod but havn't gotten to that yet. I'll bet it sure does make getting at 8's header bolts alot easier. that furthest back one is a real pain. In case it helps, I made sure to get header bolts with the smaller head size, I think its 3/8's instead of some that have the 7/16th. For you guys that have hedman's I think you need those anyway, but my newer hookers could get by without them.

Trace the perimeter of the HVAC box and go from there. The design really isnt very complicated

Re: deleting AC keeping heat...

I scrapped my ac compressor to get rid of that assembly. I never used my ac anyway, and my heater still works! But this box is pretty nice. I didnt even know about it. I will have to check into that.

Re: deleting AC keeping heat...

Assuming you just removed the HVAC box and covered the engine bay holes, your heater system will still function. You just wont have any control on how fast it comes out. Itll still bleed out

Re: deleting AC keeping heat...

got one from junk yard for $15.00 a couple years ago. it saves a ton of space all while retaing the use of heater and defog. i have hooker super comp headers that feature a removable # 8 tube , by loosening that tube i can change the starter from the top side. one of the best modifications i have made to my 86 z28 and best of all it was cheap and easy

So there isn't any baffles or anything inside the box?

No problem, had them on the hard drive so it only took a second. Good luck with it and post pics if you come up with something.

Re: deleting AC keeping heat...

Don't mean to hijack thread but is it okay just to pull the tubing and the compressor out and leave the silver canister in the heater box?

Re: deleting AC keeping heat...

People do it all the time. The biggest issue is any remaining freon left in the system when the lines are first cracked open. It is HIGHLY toxic, both to you and the environment when released to the atmosphere. If the lines are empty, you can remove whatever you like without consequence. It just looks terrible

Well my AC doesn't blow cold so I think I should be fine right?
I plan on making it look good it's just for temporary though.

I don't know if you remember when I showed you under my hood or not but thats what I did. I think I may have said something to you about getting an s10 heater box or maybe it was someone else...anyway go for it.

Re: deleting AC keeping heat...

Watch out for which s10 you get a box out of!! I got one out of a 84 s10 and it doesn't quite match up as well as the ones that I have seen on here. I think you need to get it out of a S-10 that is at least a 91.

The box I have doesn't bolt up at all, and the blower fan doesn't line up with the hole in the firewall.

check out my thread:
