My 4L80E swap
Hi...
One of the things I'm doing right now is putting in a 4L80E tranny instead of the TH700.
I have LT headers and a homemade y-pipe, also using a adjustable torque arm from spohn.

The Tranny next to the TH700.

List of things...
* 4L80E
* Driveshaft
* 1350 to S44 Joint since I still have stock rear
* Vigiliante Convertor
* TCI Box
* Sligthly massaged the tunnel with a hammer
* New crossmember
* Torque arm modified.

Re: My 4L80E swap
The first thing is to get it up, no big deal only had to massage one place since the 4L80e has a two bumps at right side at the back with holes in them...The first one hits the floor, se If I can take a picture of it.
After getting it up the torque arm seemed to be at the same lenght as the tranny mount, making it hit the strut, something had to be done...
2 alternatives...
1. shorten the torque arm but then I have to weld a new y-pipe and exhaust...Then It would be hard to sell since the torque arm would only fit my car...
2. Make it longer so it would be in front of tranny mount....
I went with nbr 2.........

next thing is to weld a new crossmember...........coming soon

Re: My 4L80E swap
I drilled out the far rearest holes in the frame, welded some M10 nuts on a piece of sheetmetal and then welded the piece on to the frame so that I have two "threded" holes in the frame at the rear.
I then did a piece of iron like this

This is the main part of the new crossmember. I didnt want it to hang in just 2 bolts in case of one should loose so I added some sheetmetal toward the std holes in the frame, also added torque arm mounting and some reinforcements.

Re: My 4L80E swap
yes, the front one hits the floor, Will take a picture of it and post.
Tranny is modified to the "worst", also line pressure is controlled with vacuum and not by the TCI box.
Vigil is a multi disc, bought is used, have to check if its a 3disc or 5disc
Stall rpm in former owners car was 5k, will se what it stalls behind my engine ....

Re: My 4L80E swap
Maybe "best" would be more correct *lol* . Dont have a full spec but It can take som abuse ....
A full weight 4gen camaro used this setup for 3-4 years before it needed rebuild, raced alot and best times was 9,4 I think.
Yes, line pressure is controlled by vacuum. Will post more pictures tonight (swedish time )

Re: My 4L80E swap
I used NPT to AN fittings.
I didnt re-use the old lines, I used hose with AN hose ends.
The electric hook up is almost ready, Its starting to be alot of wires now on the passenger side. 165-730 conversion, dual WBO2, EGT, TCI box.....

Re: My 4L80E swap
F*ck....I mounted the Y-pipe today and it sits so high and the 4L80 tranny is so much wider than TH700 so the shifter arm hits the exhaust
I dont want to lower the y-pipe so I'll try to make a new shifter arm, cable holder.......

Re: My 4L80E swap
Problemo solved
I placed the shifter arm upside down and put a longer cable in from the front instead from the rear......
Took some testing before I got the cable in correct place so the shifter was smooth to move between all gears in both directions.....
So Its all there now, next questions is how is the VSS signal from the 4L80e ? Time will tell....

Hey looks good the way I understand the vss thing is you need a buffer box and you use the sensor on the back of the Trans

Re: My 4L80E swap
VSS Now tested
speedo showed 60mph just idling out if the garage.....
This is with VSS buffer box hooked up so If you still use a 1227165 ECM you'll need some kind of adjustable "buffer box" to slow down the signal.
Since I have a 1227749 ECM with magnetic vss signal input I rewired it last night, removed the VSS box and hooked up vss/speedo/CC direct to the ECM, will test it this week.

Re: My 4L80E swap
Now everything works.
I removed the stock VSS Buffer and replaced it with a DRAC/VSSB from a Astro van, modified it like suggested on this site http://www.tbichips.com/drac/
and now everything works. Tuning left but thats another story...........

Re: My 4L80E swap
I got one from 92-95 a so called VSSB with "dual bank of jumpers".....
And yes using factory speedo.
Oh, one thing make sure the TCI box gets enought power!
Was testing a WOT run yesterday and the car didnt shift, Fuse blow (10amp) since I had dual WBO2, EGT and some otherstuff also on same fuse and TCI-box only should have 10Amp fuse. Well I let off and got home in 2'gear but the car ran good up to 6375rpm
to bad I didnt get any WBO2 readings......
