ROOF IDEAS?

ok so i have a 1990 camaro rs hard top and im trying to think of new ways to make it different from all others im thinking about cutting the majority of the roof off and replacing it with a removable 1/2 inch thick hinged peice of plexiglass. so that way the roof would be completly see through but i could also take it off on nice days essentially making a t top without the T lol. as far as i can see all i would have to do would be to cut it off and just do something to close up the metal and figure out a way to "bolt" the plexi glass in there im thinking of using bolts and wingnuts to secure it. i would love to get some feedback on how you guys would do this or if it would just be a terrible idea thanks in advance.

No offense man, but I can't see a project like that ending well. Bad idea

Re: ROOF IDEAS?

Sounds like you want a clear targa top. There are some threads on here about people trying it with a removable metal top, just do a search for "targa".

Re: ROOF IDEAS?

I would leave the hardtop a hardtop. Cut up a T-top car.

Re: ROOF IDEAS?

How would you get it to sit flush without leaking like a **** in the rain?

Re: ROOF IDEAS?

Well I was thinking I could kinda heat up the plexiglass and form it as close as possible to the contours of the original roof and seal it with heavy rubber

Re: ROOF IDEAS?

The targa top idea has been done on a third gen before. But not with a piece of plexiglass. You will have to reinforce the car with subframe connectors. It can be done but don't expect it to be cheap or easy. You better realy want to do it and have the know how and tools as well.
