Re: Request: Custom Air Dam

Personally, I'd want a new factory one...

Think about it, they're made from plastic for a reason. If you hit/scrape something, which you will lol, it will flex and then return to it's original shape. Make it out of sheetmetal, whether steel or aluminum, and once you hit something it will permanently deform. If you make it sturdy enough to not deform, it's going to weigh more than it needs to, and you could mess up your radiator support from the impact.

Re: Request: Custom Air Dam

If you want something custom I'd suggest learning how to do composites (ie: fibreglass, carbon fibre, etc). I'm planning to do an air dam as one of my first projects, but that's still a long way off as I've lots of resto work first. I'd recommend Kevlar as your reinforcement fabric as it will be very resistant to impact and abrasion and will outlast glass or carbon.

Re: Request: Custom Air Dam

I called a chevy dealer my father works at and they know me. They discontinued the item. I even checked corvettes. Plus they checked other dealers an warehouses an found nothing. I'd love one out of fiberglass since it'll break before the metal support. A custom one will scoop more than a stock one from what i've read. Also my ride sits about 1" higher than stock on RS trim. As long as the scoop sits about level with the front lip spoiler it should be fine.

Re: Request: Custom Air Dam

just because the dealer doesnt have one doesnt mean they are not available, they pop up all the time on ebay, probably a handful there now.

for that matter

and about 20 more as well. Stock will work fine, glass ones will get destroyed fast. They need to flex a little. If you bottom out enough to damage the lower radiator support, you will have other more expensive body damage to deal with

Timinsk, why don't you look up Brother Al and ask him to keep an eye out at a local yard?
