Subscribing. Amazing build! I love how more people are getting third gens to turn then just go straight. Lately these crazy builds has inspired me to keep my third gen and mod it.
Ps once those coils come out I will be first inline lol.

 

Third gens have always been good at turning, even from the factory. With all the aftermarket out there, they now can handle with some of the best sports cars of today...ask me how I know.

To be honest the third gen just feels more comfortable to push it to its limits. The shifter, the pedals, even the seating position just feels more comfortable then other cars I've driven.

 

Thirdgens handle amazingly. One of the best budget build cars out there IMO.

been working on an engine run stand as I have 5 LS engines to get going for personal projects as well as friends projects.
I'll try to get some pics up after this weekend (I'll be driving in the autocross at LS Fest. If anyone is at the show come look me up!)

omg... i have bean trying to figure out how to mount 5th gen front coil overs into my third gen for a while now , kinda put it on the back burner.... those coilovers are beautifull..... are the spindle mounts on the 3rd and 5th gen the same geometry?

 

5th gen camaro struts will not fit on a 3rd gen.

However, we will be offering struts designed just for the 3rd gen. . .eventually.
They are a little down the list, but they will be done.

 

i hope so. yes i know the upper strut mount is diffrent, i was going to re design the mounts.... the lower mounts were my question, but if some one is planing to build and produce them, correctly, ill wait ;]

 

So much for "a quick winter deal". It is almost the NEXT winter now! Life sure gets in the way of plans, huh?

been building a wood fired boiler to heat the shop. Once that's done it should be nice enough to actually get something done this winter!

 

You have it made. My garage is filled with stuff (crap, really) and I can't put my car(s) in there to work on them. It's rough working on my cars during the winter and it doesn't get really cold where I live.

 

well, it does help that the garage attached to my house is 30X64

I know you still come on here. So has anything been done to it? Are you still planning on finishing?

 

Yeah, I've been working on it when I can.
I'm to the point where I started removing everything so I can put it on a rotisserie and weld the underside.
After that it's seal everything, spray some paint, and start putting it together.
There's still a little fab work to do, but mostly little things.
I've neglected taking pics and posting them as I've just been trying to get it done.

 

Gonna be one hell of a camaro....

Seriously brah this is one hell of a long winter

 

Yeah, things like this take time. Not to mention I don't work on it all the time. I have to balance raising a family, building mass produced parts for the world, and working on my own projects. Unfortunately my projects must take a back seat to the other two, so it tends to take a lot longer than I hoped or planned.

I envy the guys who build projects like this in a year or less. . .but then again I don't envy the money they spend to do it!

Though there are no new pics I have been busting butt on this thing.
I have the major fab done, the underside and inside is in primer, and I hope to spray some black on it sometime very soon.

After that I can start actually bolting parts on for about the last time.
I'm still undecided about color. . .either blue or white. . .but I may just get it going and run in in "fabulous teal" for a while so I can sort out any bugs.

 

I can only dream of the progress you have made. Keep up the magnificent work on all your projects.

What, that your skill set is far beyond a lot of people on this site? Your car is going to be one of the sickest corner carvers out there? That you are FAR from being done?

Nope I don't get it. Good luck with the forward progress on the car. I am following this closely since I am very interested in the end result.

 

What color are you painting it?

 

My skill set is actually pretty lacking. . .but don't tell me that or I'll start to think I can't do it! The only thing I have over most people is that I know a lot of smart people in this game (one of the benefits of my job).

It should do pretty well in the turns, but the primary goal of this car is just to have a cool daily driver. I loved the Z06, but hated that it was a Vette. And it was always intended to be just a parts car.

I am still quite a long way from actually driving the car, but by using the stock Vette front end it's going together much more quickly than a "scratch built" car. It's kind of nice to just bolt things back on, like brake lines and whatnot. Typically one has to build everything.

I'm still undecided on color. I'm thinking either white or some shade of blue.
The plan for now is to get it drive-able and rock the "fabulous" teal. The underside was easy as it can no longer be body color, so black it was!

 

Why the hate against vettes and I really like the white with black rims look

 

its beautiful ..... i didnt get to come by the ride tech booth this year at sema, ill be sure to come by next year, im sure we could bulshit about suspention all day long lol, i recently got fed up with the coilover systems on the market for our cars and took the high road and built my own, the rears are done, soon to be installed, im still working on the fronts, its crazy how one day your having a beer with a buddy who just so happens to work for a company who builds racing shocks, and a week later your sitting with the enginier lol im building the lower mounts next weekend and then i have to build the uppers, it has a 7/8 shaft coming through the bearing up top... so its really beefy... still need to order front springs also... but there beautiful.. when i finish them ill post a pic

Well this is an amazing thread. Coming from owning an FRC vette its pretty sweet what you are doing! I love so much about both cars 3rd gen and the c5. I went from 3rd gen to a C5 back to a 3rd gen since I like fabricating and building stuff and didnt wanna mess with the vette much. This makes me wanna buy a trashed 3rd gen and start all over LOL

I have actually made some progress, but I have not taken the time to snap any pics. I'll see if I can find some time this weekend to take some pics.

BTW I ran our 67 "48 Hour Camaro" today at Putnam Park just outside of Indy at the Midwest Muscle Car Challenge, and it has re-inspired me to get back on this project! I only made 8 laps total, due to a rear axle seal failure which resulted in a lot of smoke and a black flag, but I ran well and it was a ton of fun!
