Okay, not to hijack by any means lol but here are the output shots:

*Credit for these shots goes to JVX. on HIDPlanet*

Mini H1 low beam:

Size: 36.5 KB

Mini D2S low beam:

And just for fun, FX-R low beam:
Name: DSC_1534h.jpg
Views: 546
Size: 36.0 KB

You can see there was a small bulb alignment issue with the H1, so with the bulb properly seated output will be increased slightly. The D2S almost completely lacks a hotspot and cutoff intensity and the foreground is flooded with light. It's sort of hard to tell from these pics but the H1 has less foreground allowing your eyes to adjust to the lights that's down the road and not in your face.

There ya go!

Ah. My drivers side used to bounce until I really got after the lift rod mounting bolts & snugged them down. IIRC, I had to grind away a bit of bracketry around it to get my wrench on there real good & solid, then it tightened up good.

yeah, my PS side light is pretty solid, but the driverside has a sloppy bushing that needs attention. However, the PS motor went on me, so the car is in the garage for the winter. Im going to rebuild both motors and be done with it.

Hey, if you think you can build a set, go right ahead, but i warn you, its very hard to get together. I would love to see somebody else create another version.

Like I've said before, one of the coolest looking mods on this site!

I'm nearly done retrofitting my GTA. Not trying to hijack but I love the idea of true /projectors on firebirds!

Lot's of folks asking about changing the lights on their Firebirds so I thought I would drag this thread up again.
I don't think anyone has ever done it better....

What he said.

Talk is cheap, but //86TA\\ walks the talk. I respect anyone with fabrication skills and the guts to cut into their car.

I salute you.

He didnt actually have to modify any stock piece on the car to do this mod, lol. He made all the parts except the motors and the headlight doors.

Not that he hasnt cut on the car though.....

Very cool idea. IDK if it's been said yet, I didn't read through all 4 pages. But you need a new ID now "angry bird".

absolutely ingenious! I was beginning my search for using the entire flip assemble from a C4 Vette to mount dual beams like you used! major pat on the back for this direction!

Re: New bird flip-up light mod. A new direction, literally.

I have not been on this site for a bit but this mod is one of the cooler ones i have seen. you better get a patent in soon or one of the sites on here is going to steal it! Great for c4/c5 vettes, and 92-97 firebirds!

Re: New bird flip-up light mod. A new direction, literally.

Wow surprised to see this thread again. It's true, the car is gone, but I did remove and keep the headlights. The problem was they vibrated a little because of the hinge design and while it didn't bother me at all, the light flickered at on coming traffic and was quite annoying. Some refinement would fix that problem, but never went any further.

Hell, better yet sell the design to retrofit source or something so we can buy a bolt in replacement headlight upgrade!

This is still one of my favorite firebird mods. Really well done and functional!

I'd have to see what they look like with one or both sides stuck in the forever up position, with or without bailing wire and collision damage, before I can opine on whether the conversion should be commercially available.

I occasionally deal with some aluminium fabrication on a side if you want to sell the lights. Can see about possibly refining the lift mechanism and the frame to give it more stability.
