TIME FOR NEW PAINT
I got tired of seeing this every time I opened a door:

I decided it was time FINALLY to repaint my bird.
Anything worth doing is worth doing right, so off with the bumpers, lights, door handles, trim, ground effects. Next the hood, fenders, hatch, windshield and doors will come off.
So far I have not found any rust whatsoever, happy about that. There are a few little wavy places to fix, mostly on the doors, nothing you could see unless you really look close.

Re: TIME FOR NEW PAINT
Looks like the top of my doors...except someone's already painted them at least once, so I have clearcoat peeling off instead of base coat.
Looks like you're doing it right (removing the bumpers, ground effects, door handles, glass, etc.). Gonna look great when it's done! LOL at the fog lights/parking lights, I forgot they mount to the bumper support and not the bumper itself.
I've decided to do mine on the cheap for now until I can actually drive the car for the first time and see if it's even worth having it painted right. Don't want to have $3k body work/paint if the car needs a ton of mechanicals to drive.

Re: TIME FOR NEW PAINT
Been very busy lately, not much time for updates.
Car is in prime and whats left of guide coat, all the ripples and dings are now gone, smooth as glass! Speaking of glass, the Glass guys are coming thursday to put in the new windshield
It should be done friday night. Hopefully!

Re: TIME FOR NEW PAINT
That really stinks. Any number of things could have gone wrong - ultra cheap paint, paint that is too old or has gone bad (I've heard of this happening if its been frozen and unfrozen), different brands of paints being used for each step, poor prep work, contaminants in the paint, ect
Theres nothing to do except sand it straight down to the metal and repaint. Depending on how bad the rust is you may have to invest in a sandblaster. Does it look like the paint is peeling because its rusting underneath or or is it rusting because the paint is peeling?

Re: TIME FOR NEW PAINT
I'm going to go with bad factory primer. The paint on my T/A (also White, also a '91) flaked off the hood, roof, tops of the doors and fenders, and also the tops of the quarter panels. GA car, no rust underneath the flaking paint, or anywhere ever other than under the t-top bar from clogged drains and bad weatherstripping. It's a fairly well-known problem, and AFAIK the only way to fix it is to strip the whole car down to bare metal and have it repainted. Sucks, but GM had serious problems with peeling paint in the early 90s, and not just on F-Bodies.
