Where did you get a gen 1 for 1000 lbs? You can get the trans ecu and everything else you need from xvipers.

I bought the engine for 1000 euros, that is about 1300$

Engine is from one and only first gen Viper in Serbia which is crashed about 10-12 years ago.

Re: Viper Powered 85 Z28

I know, that's why I bought it. I had plans to build up L98 or to put LS1 but when I found this engine, I had to buy it for this price So now plans are changed and I have to find some informations about this engine, ECU, transmission and electrics to find out how to put this in my GTA.

Tonight I will open new thread about my project, still this is Cray z28's thread

Re: Viper Powered 85 Z28

Hey shone keep me posted. We can accomplish this helping each other with the issues we find. I also found a site called x2vipers. LOTS of parts. I wont have my Z back for a few weeks while the rear quarter gets realligned.

Re: Viper Powered 85 Z28

Yeah Shone its x2builders. I just got my mock block today and UPS broke a 6" chunk where the bell housing bolts on the right side. Then I pull the heads out and the right one has a 3" break at the rear. PISSED. I also found out that the Zinik Z28 wheels I want don't come in 10-13" widths. So the hunt begins for a new wheel. I am thinking of the 2012 Corvette ZR1 wheels.

Simple....Send them off to be widened. That is how my 9" wide wheels became 11"s. 9" is the widest they are offered.

http://www.wheelsamerica.com/index.php?page=main is where I sent mine to. I used the Dallas location since it is the closest to me. I hae mine powdercoated too while they were there. I just used a colored pencil to label where I wanted it black & what was to be polished. So mine went off as bare, 9" wide & back back as black powdercoat (spokes & the inner loop that you could see by looking between the spokes) w/polished lip.

What will you do regarding these damages?

shone.. what damages?
I cant do my zinik z28 rims because the profile goes to the outside of the outer lip. I think you can only widen rims with profiles that sit on the ID of the rim. Correct me if im wrong please.

Huh???

Considering where the rims are cut at for widening, I don't see much of anything stopping a rim from being widened.

I have 7"bs & cut out the bumpstop & 1 layer. 10"bs would pretty much require a mini-tub, so that amount of work is up to you. Wheels America says they only do the widening to the inside & I am sure that is basically because the seam would be visible & "ugly".

U mean stick out like mine do??
not the best picture but it still shows.... It is illegal but it all depends on the strictness of the law in your area... if there are a lot of jacked up trucks on the road with mud tires on... I'd say go to it... Keep a set of spare wheels/tires kicking around for backups just in case. I've had these tires on my car for 10 years now and I've been stopped by the cops for un-necessary noise in city limits, among some other minor infractions and the cops have almost always mentioned the tires being a bit wide but they dont do anything or tell me to get them replaced.. I've actually had a lot more people compliment the way the car looks than compliment how illegal it is.. Hell I have 2 cops in the Local Camaro club I got started that absolutely love the look haha.

Oh Shone, gotcha. I have to screw and epoxy the busted pieces. Here in Taxachusetts, you can't have the wheel hanging out the well. I am mini tubbing for the 13" wide meats.

Hey every body. What do you think of these. 335/25/20 out back and 285/30/19 up front. Plus I ordered the chrome molly 10pt cage.

I like the look of the wheels, but I wonder if 20's in the back will look too big. But the width at 335 will be just plain AWESOME!

O.K. guys. I had the Z kicked out of the stretch shop(peacefully) for the owners daughters ride. Thus I brought the Z back to the shop, pulled the motor and set the Viper block in place. I am uploading the pics in a minute.

Re: Viper Powered 85 Z28

you should be fine. My 521 Big block ford in my 87 formula 350 is alil bigger than that V10. Took some work but i made my own headers and a bunch of other stuff and it dropped right in lol.

Its hard to see how wide this thing really is but its massive. the valve cover is .250" away from the top left of the brake booster lol.

good luck with the swap! Its always better to be different!

Hi Cray,

what about motor/engine mounts?

Did You use original V8 mounts or Viper mounts and do You have some pictures of modifications?

Re: Viper Powered 85 Z28

Sorry guys. I have been wrapped up at work for a little bit. Then I had a great vacation in N.C. I have a friend that works at Majestic Motorsports. Sick, sick, sick, turbo powered cars. I am back and I will get back on the project. Shone I just set the mock in there to check for clearance. I will be using stock Viper mounts on a 4x2 frame.

Re: Viper Powered 85 Z28

I suppose You need to cut and modify something to put Viper engine with Viper mounts?

Re: Viper Powered 85 Z28

Incredible... Anyone who flames someone for putting a v10 in one of our cars, has absolutely no right to be posting in this thread, because they obviously can't appreciate interesting fabrication. On the other hand, I would definitely laugh if someone made a third gen 4 cyl/front wheel drive conversion thread

No prob guys. I don't sweat the haters and doubters. I am sure shone doesn't either. All I have to say is that when the builds are done the haters and doubters will be lining up for a chance to look and ride.
