Custom cluster build for my 1992 Camaro
I have just finished the install of my custom cluster in my 92, and my main goal was to retain the stock plastic "window" that the cluster comes with. So I hollowed out the gauge housing (white plastic) and removed all of the gauges from said housing. I then cut the black plastic around the white housing, and cut a piece of lexan to fit. I then cut in the lexan, the diameter of the gauges I was using, which are prosport gauges, with black tinted gauge faces. I like the ghosted look with the car off. Then I put the lexan template I made over the white plastic GM housing, and marked off the drill holes for the screws that mated the old gauges to the housing, then drilled them out. Lexan is not fun when cutting or drilling, the only way I can describe the process is a slow melting of the lexan, not so much cutting. I did all of this with a dremel and a drill. After all the cutting and drilling, I scuffed, primed, and painted the lexan sheet I had made satin black. I then used a hole saw, and cut my 4 backing holes for each gauge into the white plastic housing. I put the gauges through through the lexan, then mounted it to the white housing, then used the gauge hardware to secure them to the back of the white housing. I'll show the wiring involved in the posts to come.

I took all of the wiring, and used male/female spade connectors and heat shrink them to the original gm wiring. I did this so if they ever need to be removed I can do so without cutting the wiring entirely. I found the info as to which wires are which in the gm pinout on this website, with some searching. I didn't save the thread location though. I also covered each spade connector individually with electrical tape so there would be any signal crossing, or grounding, or shorts. I then loomed all of the wire together with small zip ties and electrical tape.

Re: Custom cluster build for my 1992 Camaro
After I'm done with my under hood wiring, I'll have some pictures to add of these on. And most likely a video on Youtube and a link. As a side note, I used all gm Senders for these gauges, except for water temperature, as it's gauges specific. The order of the gauges are, from left to right, Oil Pressure, Water Temperature, O2 sensor, Digital RPM. And if anyone is wondering, my fuel gauge is in a single pod mount on my pillar, and my Speedo will be mounted to the side of my cluster, as I dont like it where GM put it.
