Any interest in CAD models?

Being an car enthusiast and also very intrested in techology and production and so on, i started searching for a CAD model of 3rd gen T/A. Since i haven't found any site which provides me this, im thinking of starting to scan my own car to CAD model. Ofcourse doing this will demand me a lot of resources and therefore sharing the file (or files) needs to have a fee, unfortunately. Now, to make sure this idea is worth investments to start a company and sell the files or just make it for my own use or my final project in school, i would appreciate if you could answer the questions below. Even negative votes are useful, cause i need to make statistics for it. (sorry for any grammar mistakes, english is not my native language and if i posted this in wrong place)

1) Would you be interested in CAD model of 3rd gen? (yes or no)
2) Would you pay for it? (Yes or No)
3) Would you rather be interested in whole model or would you satisfied with the area(engine compartment for example) that interest you the most? (whole model/Area)
4) Assuming the cost of one detail(or area) is 100$ and complete model would cost depending on level of detail. (example for whole body around 1000$) would you still be interested? If not then what prices would be acceptable.
5) Would you be interested in complete service which makes a real part after your scetches (Y/N)

Re: Any interest in CAD models?

I would love to have Solid Model data available for my car, but in reality there's not much I can't figure out with a tape measure. So no, $1000 is way to much for any project I will ever do with my car.

If we ever end up getting a Faro arm or other large scale inspection equipment at work, I will be all over it.

Re: Any interest in CAD models?

Thank you for the reply 88gunmetalgta. yea, i thought too that i'd rather pay as less as possible or even not at all. Guess i have to start thinking about alternative ways of sponsoring my idea if i wanted to share it free or say 100 bucks the whole model. Dont know how much money are you guys willing to put in a third gen in US but here, in Europe where the car is quite rare i would consider buying a model for 80€ cause often it is cheaper to build parts ourselves than order it overseas. Luckily i am very interested in solid model of my car myself, so im gonna just start to scan it in, and see what i can do with the data afterwards.

Well keep us posted with your progress! You never know, maybe a couple screenshots of the finished model would net a few more interested people.

Models of certain things like the engine and other moving parts, sure. Models of the whole car? Not much use outside of a video game

Been there, done that. About 200 hours for a pretty picture...

Re: Any interest in CAD models?

^Having all the stock engine bay components available, as well as the entire engine bay (including the hood w/bracing) would be incredibly useful.

SBC accessory mount points, stock length pulley locations, head accessory mount holes, existing engine bay mount holes and bosses. That's what would be most useful to me.

Re: Any interest in CAD models?

What I'd be most interested in is using an engine bay model and mock Gen3 for clearances. It'd be tremendously useful to me as I need to estimate clearance and tolerance for my new 5.3 turbo build lol....piping can get really close! Does anyone have a gen3 engine model or thirdgen bay model? I use proE at work, but have solidworks, catia, UG, NX, proE at home.

Re: Any interest in CAD models?

I'd be interested in the model but mostly the engine bay like most other people. About the price I can see paying something for it but here in america an entire roller costs less than a thousand so that money you may as well just by the car for real and just hack the real deal up.

Thats the problem

If these models took 20 mins to make, freebies wouldnt be an issue, but they dont. Models worth using take 10-100+ hours to draw, so asking someone to just give up what they worked extensively on is laughable

Not anymore. I used to "trade" models in exchange for other useful bits, but after sending out quite a few copies, I never once received another model in return. Cant justify it anymore

A supplier i work with has a 3d scanner and printer..what i wouldn't give to have engine components 3d scanned in a matter of minutes!

Re: Any interest in CAD models?

I have a complete SBC in CAD format... Took me forever to design off a few drawings and taking measurments of a real block.... Its not perfect but all bolt holes and everything are there....

Also have a 350 turbo tranny and a crap ton of -06 an fittings.... You can search grab cad for the files... Or Pm me and ill see if i can send them...
