re: Cup holder

Cupholdersonline.com. They're cheap, just a couple of bucks each. Mine holds a 20 oz coke bottle, a large McD's ice tea and coffee.. Just remember, when you go to cut the hole, you only get one chance. I use it all the time

re: Cup holder

good work, but that's the absolute worst place for a cupholder.. or am i just weird not wanting to be resting my arm on the top of my Pepsi can when i'm driving down the road?

my solution when i went on my 3900 mile 8 day road trip last year was to buy a 4 pack of cupholders from Wal Mart- the kind that are supposed to hang on the door- and just screw them to either side of the console in front of the seats on either side of the ashtray with self tapping screws.. they even put slotted holes in the cupholders to allow me to take them off and get them out of the way when they aren't being used.. if drilling into your console with a self tapping screw makes you queasy (as if it's any worse than chopping a 3" hole in it..) then figure out a way to hang it over the console and into the ashtray..

Re: Cup holder

You must drink some awfully tall Pepsi's lol.. Not only is it the best place for the cup holder, but it looks like the factory put it there. Funny how when everyone checks out my car I usually here " where did you get that cup holder.??? (it's also what reopened this thread). But like everything else, it's what makes ME happy.. I was going for a "low profile" look and I think it looks really cool..

Re: Cup holder

A lot of factory cup holders on other cars are in the same general location. Maybe there are slightly better spots, but I think it looks fine there myself.

Always thought it was dumb that the factory didn't put holders in 90% of these cars...

re: Cup holder

What about the cup holder/map pocket piece that bolts to the bottom of the door? I bet you could find them in a junkyard or repo somewhere & they hold pretty big McDonalds cups, don't get in the way of the shifter or your legs.

I cut a hole 3 times and it's still too big.

I had to spell check the topic. It was driving me nuts.

had two separate of those on my 91 bird. only good if you take your drinks out b4 shutting the door. otherwise it splashes and eventually breaks the front mount in the holder. plus it really only fits the mega buddy size(kwik trip) drinks. though honestly better than nothing.

nope.. just normal Pepsi cans.. my arm rests right there when i drive, and it just wouldn't be a comfortable place for it. my new daily driver (01 Grand Prix GTP) has pull out cupholders in the console in about that same spot and it sucks.

someone asked why they didn't put cupholders in these cars from the factory- the answer is that people didn't want or need cupholders back when these things were built. it was a dark age when people didn't have to worry about what they were going to do with a 60oz coke from the McD's drive thru because we generally went inside when we ate.. cupholders started appearing in most cars in the 90's, and now people think it's weird when they see a car that doesn't have them.

Before you start cutting, let me find you a pic of the tool I used. It makes it a breeze to cut. I could never find a holesaw with the perfect size so I used this tool. Stone

I have experienced this as well. Can't be slammin doors with your drinks in there or you get covered in beverage.

Re: Cup holder

I thought the ashtray method might interfere with my gas-pedal leg a lot more than it actually does.

Different body-shapes might change the "interference" though.

I'm 5"11, 175.

A cooler-caddy in the back opposite floorboard might work too - but a lot more awkward to reach.
I trust ME to reach back there like that than I trust Sheila to not elbow me in the eye-socket, and then dump a complete latte across the console and into my lap.

That is clean simple and looks factory since my ash tray is my main control panel this .. just might work for me what size hole for that and about how deep does it sit looks great

Again..? Yet another comment that it looks "factory"..??? That's funny..lol I don't remember what size hole I cut. Just measure it a couple of times. I used a piece of wood as a practice piece to get the hole the perfect size.. cut the hole, slide it in and glued it in (you might not want to glue it in). I leave to work sometimes at 2am so I gotta have my coffee mug, and it fits there perfectly.. Stone

Re: Cup holder

I have the folding kind mounted on the side of my console. They also look "factory" The only problem is in colder weather when you might have some heat on, the console vents blow right on the can. It's ok if you like warm soda or want to keep your coffee warm!

Stone, What diameter cupholder did you use? Nice job by the way.

I went to the "cupholdersonline" website and that's where I saw my folding holders but I really like the way that yours looks and may go that route.

Re: Cup holder

Thanks guys, yesterday I was driving in snowy conditions and had a cup of coffee to drink. Sure glad I had a place for it and it wasn't just sitting in the seat next to me. Couldn't put it between my legs, too HOT. Had to have two hands on the wheel, then I realized how much I use it lol. Funny how what some people would think is a meaningless mod can be so useful. Sad how when people look inside my car the first thing they say is "hey! Mine didn't come with a cup holder" LOL.

Re: Cup holder

I didn't even know IROCs had no cup holders until I bought mine; I wanted one of these things since I was a toddler and the first time I went out for a drive I got in with a drink in my hand and I looked around like.... wtf?!

Re: Cup holder

With so much cruising we do in our car.. makes you wonder why someone didn't think "hey man, these people are going to cruise on up to Virginia beach from time to time and they'll have their t-tops off, they may get thirsty, let's put a simple cup holder somewhere.." I only have one cuz my gal shares my drinks so its cool.

I've worked SO hard getting my interior PERFECT, and it's funny how people look inside and the first freak'n thing they say is "cool cup holder, is that factory?? mine didn't come with one!"
