Just curious if anyone has tried using the cowl-induction set up from the 82-84 Firebirds to work with/be an additional cold air add to an EFI system?

You talking about the crossfire flaps?

If so, then I know it's been done, read about it on here somewhere. I almost did the same thing on my car (except it's carb'd) but the stock hood wouldn't fit.

Not sure if it's called the cross fire "flaps" or not, but the cowl piece that is above the carb and mounts to the power bulge. It opens at 75% throttle to allow more air into the motor.

If you're talking about working with a crossfire car they came that way from the factory, the scoop just got a different shaped gasket/opening (bigger than the carb one, sort of diamond shaped).

I'm pretty sure that I have one in the garage...

My 84 has a CCQjet and the cowl induction set up on the hood that is still functional.

I'm considering going to Fuel injection (miniram), and am trying to figure out if there is a way i can make the cowl induction part still useable. A little extra "Air" coming in at 75% throttle if nothing else.

If I can't figure it out, I'm going to just leave the set up in place because it's perfectly fine where it is and won't hurt anything.

The miniram Throttle body is on the front of the intake right? You would need some custom duct work to feed air from the scoop to the new throttle body location, but it's definatly doable.

Besides directing that air flow, you will also need a micro-switch, a relay, and some wiring. You can fab up a bracket to mount the switch so the throttle linkage pushes the switch. That in turn would make up the coil of the relay which would then pass the required 12v through the load side of the relay and power up the flap solenoid. Piece of cake.

Since the relay currently works via vacuum/throttle position, I don't know that I would need wire up any extra relays. I think the biggest issue would be somehow fabbing up the ducting and have it gain access to the normal miniram ducting.
