Firebird Project Update
Hi Guys,
I'm going to stop working on the Firebird for the summer and just thought I would post a few pictures of my latest progress...
-Installed 4th gen battery mount/radiator overflow tank
-Installed 4th gen windshield washer (see blue cap in pic)
-Made a new lower-radiator support so Champion radiator to fit
-Made a simply radiator hold-down with electric fan mounts
-Made a non-AC fan blower mount/cover
-Relocated battery and associated wiring to passenger side
-Added an aftermarket transmission cooler
-Added 36# Bosch 3 injectors
-Removed factory steering shaft and replaced with one from an S10
-Covered factory overflow & windshield washer tank holes
-Painted engine bay, bolts, etc
-Made a true dual, 3" exhaust
-Replaced entire suspension, springs, steering (except steering column) and steering box
-Started tuning and got her to idle pretty good. More tuning next summer
*Note - the cone air filter is only temporary until I fab up something. Also, the driver side muffler has a slight tilt i need to fix.
Previous updates, including engine details, are in my signature.
This project was my first time using fiberglass and welding, so have pity on my limited skills
Thanks guys!

Re: Firebird Project Update
What was involved in the S-10 steering shaft swap?
I have an Astro shaft that I haven't installed yet, so if the S-10 is easier I'll grab one

Re: Firebird Project Update
It's just like doing the Astro or jeep shaft, gets rid of the rag joint (sloppy) and replaces it with a shaft that uses a u-joint set up for a more direct feel. For the Astro shaft you take the shaft apart, clock it 90 degrees, tack it back together and then when you install it on the steering shaft on the car, you have to notch the shaft on the car for the bolt to pass through.

Sorry for getting back to you so late. I can't recall if I had to notch anything... but it was a really straight-forward swap. Actually a lot easier than I thought it would be.
