Fuel pump in the spare tire compartment

I bought a Magnafuel Prostar 500 pump.

I'd like to install it in the spare tire compartment.
I'd place it on the bottom of the compartment so as to be close to the fuel level.

Anyone did this?
Pics?
What did your bulkhead look like?

Re: Fuel pump in the spare tire compartment

You wouldn't be allowed on a track since the fuel pump would be considered in the drivers compartment. You would need to fabricate some sort of firewall to isolate it from the drivers compartment. The plastic covers do not qualify as a firewall.

If you don't intend on going to any track, you can mount it anywhere you want.

Re: Fuel pump in the spare tire compartment

So if I made a box and covered the pump (in the spare tire compartment), then that would be considered a firewall?

I'd use sheetmetal and bolt it over top of the pump

Sealed on all sides would probably pass. Depends on what your tech person thinks of it.

Re: Fuel pump in the spare tire compartment

Is there a reason you want it in that compartment? Mine is mounted near the tank just behind the driver-side rear tire. Easy to get to and out of the way.

Re: Fuel pump in the spare tire compartment

Unfortunately I don't. However it's pretty similar to what this guy did in his write-up: https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/carb...tric-fuel.html

If you're wanting to run the single 4" over the driver side though I don't think it would work. If you're running it over the passenger side then you shouldn't have any issues.

Re: Fuel pump in the spare tire compartment

Did some work and made the hole for the pump.

Now have to make a "bulkhead" box over top of the pump
