What should I get?

Hey, I'm a new user on this forum. I wasn't sure just where to post this but anyway. I don't yet have an F-body but am looking to get one. I like camaros a little more than firebirds but I can't decide what to get. Z28, RS,...TPI, TBI, Carburated. I was just hoping maybe you all could give me some insight on what you think would be the best.
Thanks

Good to see you like Camaros better. What are you looking for in the car exactly??

I'm looking for enough power so i don't get too bored with it. I don't want any bigger than a 305 so i could afford gas. and i would prefer a 5speed over an auto

Go with the 305 TPI for sure. 5 spds are cool and all, but TPI is sooooo much better then TBI. Plus you'll bet getting an IROC over an RS :lala:

Definetly. Go check out the IROC-Z, but if a 5-Speed and some good power is what your looking for wait until a 305 TPI 5-Speed with G92 comes around. Not much MPG difference between the 350 and 305. 350 is obviously faster though.

Exactly 350/305 will get the same.

Don't get TBI or carb, TBI motors sucked and the carbs are ok, but available with the LG4 motor, which sucked. Get a nice 350TPI IROC or newer Z28. Or like said above the 305 TPI/5 spd combo with a G92 option is pretty quick.

Hmm, Mike, you aren't trying to make a subtle hint for him to buy your car are you?

No, far from it! I love my car and would never sell it. That is actually the picture from when I bought it. Just thought I'd throw in some input as far as what thirdgen I like best. I'll take any chance I can get to try to get somebody into a thirdgen Firebird.

If I had the choice, I'd take a 305 TPI/5 speed first, then a 350 TPI, followed by a 305 TPI/auto.

Why not the biggest engine first? Simple...nothing is more fun than a stick. I sell new Olds and Pontiacs, and whenever I have the chance, I ALWAYS select the stick to drive. Even a smaller engine will feel livelier than the bigger one when it has a stick.

So you may ask, why do I have the #3 choice? Simple...it was cheap and in awesome shape. If you do find a nice 305 TPI/auto car thats very clean for the price, grab it! The torque is great, and unless you're ragging the hell out of it, the 305 is a nice choice as a substitute for the 350.
