Whats the deal with Beechwood interior...

Recently I ordered a replacement headliner for my 1990 Firebird. Unfortunately I was too lazy to check my RPO codes. So I told the guy I had a tan interior. Well he sent me a saddle headliner, and when it didn't match I checked my codes to find out I needed a Med. Beechwood Headliner. As a result I started searching the board and found very few posts about it. But the ones I did find were talking about how the Med. Beechwood interior wasn't very common....I am hesitant to use the word "rare" becuase I know it gets over-used....so, more-or-less unique.

So what the deal with the Med. Beechwood interior. Is it unique/uncommon/rare. I am just curious. Anyone have an idea on the number produced versus other colors. I am just curious and wanted to see if anyone could shed some light on this for me.
My 'bird is black and I makes a great combination.

Thanks, car info is in the sig.

Well it was only offered a couple or years and I'd imagine that most dealer stocked cars would just have had the regular tan. I don't know production numbers though. I can tell it's a color that I don't see very much and have never seen in person.

I don't think it would be considered uncommon or rare in anyway, although I'm sure gray, black and red are more common in that order. Here is a picture of my beechwood interior in my 90 RS. I figured you might be interested in seeing another one for comparison.

the beechwood color was only offered in firebirds '82-'84. trust me. in the pontiac classic indistries catolog as well as many other catologs it lists what positive colors came with what year. my '84 S/E T/A came with that color. check out the catolog.

84silverbird...i'll have to look into that catalog, but its definately got to be missing something. Because my 'bird definately came from the factory with the med beechwood interior. Decode RPO codes 66C, 66I, and 669. The car was equipped this way from the factory. Do you think it may have been offered one more time in 1990? What do you mean by positive colors?

cdartz, you interior is very similar to mine, excepts the seats and door panels are different of cause becuase mines a bird and not a camaro. i'll take pictures later today to show.

92GTA, I haven't seen many like mine either, but I haven't seen that many in person, maybe 20 or so hahah. But haven't seen many online either. A friend had a green 91 'bird, but it was definately saddle.

Hey, any more info or anything would be great. Thanks so far!

This is why I am replacing my headliner....you can see the original color next to my hand....the original color matched the the vinal and plastic trim in the previous pic. Next will be to re-cloth my sail panels, and replace my sun visors and t-top inserts.

Mine's a lot darker. So maybe, in '89-'92 they went with a medium beechwood. Since your headliner's old, the new material color is going to be off a little.

Yea, I am expecting it to be alot darker than my headliner looks now. It should come closer to the darkness of the door panels and etc. But thats a good catch. Technically I DO have "medium" beechwood. And that would make sense that beechwood would be darker. Thanks for the info, keep it coming if you got it!
