Yellow is nice. Red is what I took. I just never saw a yellow one on the dealers lot when I was looking back in the spring of 1986.

txturbo,

Here the next best thing to the real one. This is a ragged out high mileage on the floor, thrown around, 1985 yellow IROC-Z.

If I find a real picture sometime I will post it.

Chet

To actually answer your question Camaros were available from 85-88 in Yellow, I ahve seen SC's to Irocs. The Firebird on the other hand was only avaialble on the Formula in 87-88. In 92 all Firebird levels were available in Yellow, from what I have seen.

Here is a pic of a 92 Formula I saw for sale near Grand Rapids MI.

Well here's a new one, I just saw a factory yellow 85-88 Trans Am. It was a 2 tone car with gray as the alternate color on the gfx.

Actually BOTH of my 87 Formula's were Yellow upper with the charcoal gray lower.

I personally never liked the lower stripe anyway so I left them off. I think my second Formula I will put it back because I want it to be more original since it is a little more rare of a car.

"One of two made, yellow convertible 92 T/A"

Are you SERIOUS ?!
I actually saw one of the yellow vert '92 T/As for sale. It was used, had a 305 which I did not want and I didn't want a convertable, either. Used to see it driving around frequently but not in the last few years. Had a black top.
ARrrr! I should have bought that thing! Can't believe that I actually saw a rare car.
Really just 2 made????

yeah, I can't remember where I got that info, but it sounded very legit to me at the time.. I have no doubt it's a 1-of-2.

the 1 of only 2 story sounds like it might be correct, and the informent that told kizz this might have been absolutely honest to his knowledge and correct. I have never seen one, so I really do not know. Unfortunately Pontiac, Chevrolet, GM for that matter do not seem to keep track of records as such, so an actual count of "2 T/A converts" is actually impossibility to my knowledge.

To my knowledge the best we can hope for is # of Yellow Firebirds, and # of yellow T/A's as break out groups. As far as I know there is no provision to # of Yellow GTA's, # of yellow T/A's etc, only # of yellow GTA & TA's as a group, Hard top, T-top, Convertible included togeather.

NOTE: Since the T/A & GTA (W) actually got a different VIN designation than the Firebird/Formula (S) line, this information is available seperately and counted seperately. Camaro's (pretty much) all used the same VIN designation of (P).

Hope that helps clear it up...

John

I've been thinking about that since originally reading this thread. The first time I saw the car was in late '92. Later saw it for sale a couple years later. Saw it frequently until the last few years. Kind of forgot about it until now. Pretty sure the car was not re-painted. You hardly ever see '91,'92 T/As, GTAs, Formulas, or Z28s around here so I remember all that I see. Oh well, it doesn't really matter now. I don't know what happened to it. The last time I saw it it was showing some age. Thanks for the info.

Yellow was an option for 85-88 Camaros (I don't know Firebird info).

1985: 4599 yellow camaros
1986: 3915
1987: 3052

Talked to my friend that works at a Pontiac dealership about the yellow '92 vert T/A and he remembers it also. He said it was pretty well trashed when he saw it last. Then I told him it was a "1 of 2" and he was blown away and sad because of it's condition. Someone around here has a factory yellow 4th gen Formula that we also started talking about since we got on the subject. He had spoken to the owner of the Formula before and asked him "do you know how rare that car is?" but he didn't seem to care too much and drives it all the time.
It is astounding to me to see a rare care where I live. I always expect all the rare cars to be in California or somewhere sigificant.

Bandit400: When I said that 92 yellow T/A vert was a 1-of-2, that's just info I got off some website. Maybe the website was counting option groups, wheels, stuff like that, i.e. there may be more than just 2, with different options, etc.

Fact is though, I have never seen one anywhere. Maybe it's truly a 1-of-2 total.. I dunno.

I saw a yellow Z28 on the road yesterday. It looked to be repainted and did not have most of the outside badges. Looked to be about 87 or 88. it had Rally-1 type wheels like you'd see on late 60s early 70s vettes. Lookd pretty good actually. Ground effects, hardtop.

kizz,
Yeah, I understand that there might have been more than 2 of them. I imagine there weren't very many, though. It just feels weird to have seen one so frequently and even had the chance to buy it. It's a shame that it wasn't taken care of.
Anyway, thanks for the info.
