How do you tell???
There's a Pontiac T/A 84? Daytona Pace car for sale at the local used car lot ($4800). How do I tell if it's a real pace car and not just a T/A that someone put the decals on? Special RPO code or ???????? Thanks for any info.

Car: Recaro Option T/A
Engine: 305 Tuned Port Injection
Transmission: Automatic
Axle/Gears: 3:27 Borg Warner
The Trans Am Daytona Pace Car was made in 1983........
First 7 digits of the vin should read like this:
1G2AW87
It should have Recaro seats, leather with suede inserts.
There should also be an "H" or and "S" in the 8th digit of the vin to designate a 305 4bbl or 305 crossfire motor. (RPO LG4 or LU5)
One of the best clues would be the aero ground effects package. This was available in 1983 on the Daytona T/A only.
It should have rear disks and WS6
These cars came with heavy duty generators, K99
A good example should also have the 15x7 white "Aero" wheels, RPO N24, and T-Tops

Thanks for the details it looks like that except for the aero wheels, does this seriously hurt the value? Also what would be a good price for this car?

Do you mean the wheels are missing or just the hubcaps? The "bowling ball" hubcaps fell off easy so most owners just took them off to avoid the loss / damage. The white ones are extremely hard to find. A 15" turbo fin rim with the hubcap goes for around $350 EACH! And thats just for the black hubcap. Rumor has it most of the extra rims have been melted for thier aluminum value.
I would not walk away just because the car does not have the hubcaps, sure the value would decrease but its not a substantial amount.
Here is a fine example of an 83 Pace Car, this one is a LG4 / 5 speed, one of 520 made. He has dropped his price to 12,500 and if I remember he was asking 14,000

Without seeing the car in person its hard to estimate its true value. At that price I would have to assume it is in poor to fair shape.

Car: 1983 25th Anny Daytona 500 T/A
Engine: Stock...inoperative... 305
Transmission: Automatic
I bought my '83 Daytona Pace Car replica for $1000. It had been stolen and stripped three times so some of the Pace Car stuff is missing. The wheels are tough to find, but there's an auction on Ebay right now for four wheels and three caps... the guy auctioning them off is a jerk, though. I asked for his reserve price and he sent me a nasty e-mail!
The Pace Cars also have the special Daytona Race Course shaped emblems on the front fenders, should have special floor mats with the race course emblems, an AM-FM Cassette with equalizer, red interior lighting, locking rear storage covers, leather steering wheel, etc etc

Iroc87,
Well at least you have seen an 83 Daytona Pace Car, someday I might stare with glazed eyes upon one. I will just have to be satisfied with collecting PMD HotWheels
https://www.thirdgen.org/techbb2/sho...hreadid=111156
Pontiac Motor Division put out some fine collectibles, way more than the bowtie boys ever thought about
I have seen a 15th Anniversary T/A once and pay homage to a low mile 20th at a local dealer regularly. This TTA has less than 9k, is a documented Festival Car, and is mostly a dealer showroom queen. With T-Tops and cloth, it is the 2nd most rare of the builds.
This is my wish list:
8 car garage
1982 Recaro TA
1983 Recaro TA
1983 Daytona Pace Car
1984 Recaro TA
1984 15th Annivesary TA
1985 Recaro Option (got it, on my way, lol)
1989 20th Anniversary TA

Well if you got $4800 you can own it For the price it's really a nice one, only a few minor flaws. rip in the drivers seat(on the seam) a paint chip on the hood ( quarter size) and the steering wheel needs new leather and padding. Other than that it runs good (CFI BTW) drives nice. I guess I just need to sell one of my 5 vehicles and go buy it
