What engines were available in 1986?

Was it common for the Quadrajet to come with the z28 ans SC's.

L69= carb HO 305
LG4= carb 305
LB8= MPFI 173 V6
The LB9 auto was the fastest, but some guys will argue the 5-speed L69 was quicker.
It was very common to see the quad 305's in Z28's and SC's (LG4). The LB9 and L69 were also available in 86 Z28's.

Blue502,
I didn't know that the Iron duke wasn't offered. I know I saw it in the sales brochure for 1986 so I assumed it was produced.
I have the LB8 V6 motor in my 1986 S10 pickup that I purchased new. It has almost 90,000 miles on it and still has the original water pump and alternator. Its been a good little motor for that truck. They offered the Iron duke as the base motor for the S 10 that year.

The L69 that year would smack the LB9 silly though, seeing as how the 86 LB9 had the peanut cam and just wasnt up to the task.

Now, Now "rap" I don't know if you can smack the LG4 thaaat easy with that LB9. Mine still has a lot of pop in it even after 200,000. I guess it depends on the car, the mods and the driver. Yes the LB9 is the fastest but as you know everyone can't drive speed, not to say you can't.

I was becoming concerned. I needed that reassurance.
I have one of those 2.8 V6 with 3.42 rear end in my 1986 S 10 and it does go pretty good.
Now I can for sure smack an LG4 and I don't even need an IROC-Z to do it.

My 2.8 is some sort of freak. My other 2.8 was a pig, and my 2.8 cherokee (S10 motor) wouldn't beat an LG4 if it had 3 plug wires pulled. :sillylol:The LB9 will heartily stomp the **** out of any stock LG4 though.

I still stand by my LG4 "rap". You live in Indiana and I live in Illinois and we should meet one night to really see if you can smack my LG4 with your 2.8. I don't think you can. I can accept defeat to the LB9 TBI but not to the 2.8. But there is only one way to find out. If you do i am pulling my engine. Maybe some LG4 are dog but I have gotten my share of kills. Like "Jims" freak I too also have a freak. Might as well add your 2.8 to my list.

I'm not driving out there to race you, but I'd be happy to compare timeslips. I'm expecting to dip into the high 16s (16.8-16.9) with the bone stock 165k mile 2.8 this year. I only got 1 run in last year. It was a 17.5 with a nasty exhaust leak, full stereo, and an absolutely horrid launch where I bogged badly. With the fixed exhaust, no stereo, and good launches, I think I can pull a 16.9 on a cold night. Run yours, and we'll compare corrected times. I don't care who wins or loses, but it'll be a fun measuring stick for us both.
I'm also going to try and get my friend to bring his LG4 to the strip to see what he runs.

I don't want you to smack my 2.8.
If anybody is going to smack it. Its going to be me, I'am its daddy and I will do the smackin.
I won't be on your list.

"JIM", I MEANT FOR "RAP" TO COME RACE ME. HE LIVES IN INDIANA AND YOU LIVE IN MAINE. I WOULD NOT EXPECT YOU TO COME. THE TIME SLIP IDEA IS A GOOD ONE. AS SOON AS I CHANGE THIS cat ON MY CAR NEXRT WEEK I WILL GET YOU A TIME AND POST. IT WOULD BE GOOD FOR EVERYONE OF DIFFERENT ENGINES BOTH STOCK AND MODIFIED TO COMPARE TIMESLIPS.
